In the Line of Duty: Manhunt in the Dakotas (alternate title: Midnight Murders) is a 1991 NBC TV movie based on the real-life manhunt for Gordon Kahl after he killed two U.S. Marshals in North Dakota in 1983. The movie stars Rod Steiger as Kahl, and Michael Gross as Richard Mayberly, the federal agent sent to hunt him down.

U.S. Marshal Kenneth Muir draws a revolver while attempting to arrest Gordon Kahl outside of Medina, North Dakota. Kahl also uses a revolver to threaten a motorist who insults him at a gas station. Smithville, Arkansas sheriff Gene Matthews (David Dwyer) also uses a revolver of unknown make in the finale when he enters the home that Kahl is holed up in.
A Franchi SPAS-12 shotgun can be seen lying on the table at the Medina hospital when members of the Posse Comitatus discover they are being watched by the police.
A militiaman has a Mossberg 500AT slung on his back as federal agents approach a militia camp. Several grenades can also be seen in a box in front of him.
Sheriff's Deputy Leyland Winters (Gary Basaraba) uses a Ithaca 37 with an extend magazine tube during the first shootout with Gordon Kahl, and agent Mayberly later uses one during the raid on Kahl's home. Other federal agents and police officers are also seen using Ithaca 37s during the finale.
Gordon Kahl (Rod Steiger) uses a Ruger Mini-14 rifle throughout the film. His son Yorie and accomplice Scott Faul (Christopher Rich) are also armed with Mini-14s when they engage U.S. Marshals in a shootout outside of Medina, North Dakota.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Bob Cheshire (Ray McKinnon) points a M16A1 at Gordon Kahl when he attempts to arrest him for parole violations. Other marshals and SWAT officers throughout the movie also use M16A1s.
When Agent Mayberly goes to a militia camp to question its members about Kahl's whereabouts, one of the militiamen can be seen with a Sturmgewehr 44 rifle.
