Elite Squad
Original Title: "Tropa de Elite" In 1997, before the visit of the pope to Rio de Janeiro, Captain Nascimento from BOPE (Special Police Operation Battalion) is assigned to eliminate the risks of the drug dealers in a dangerous slum nearby where the pope intends to be lodged. Captain Nascimento is trying to find a man to replace him because his wife is pregnant and he intends to quit the command and become a trainer of the new recruits. Meanwhile, the two idealistic friends Neto and Matias join the Military Police force expecting to become honest policemen and fight the criminals…(Plot summary from Imdb.com) This is an excellent picture. It is somewhat difficult to obtain good scans because most action takes place at night and the action is fast. Nevertheless, we can see some interesting firearms:
Ruger Mini-14
Ruger Mini-14 rifles are used in several scenes by the drug dealers:
FN FAL
An IMBEL Fz M/964 (FN 50-00 brazilian license-build fixed-stock version) is used by the drug dealers as well as a DMR by at least one of the BOPE officers and a standard configuration by another.
Colt AR-15 Sporter-1
Wagner Moura, as Captain Nascimento, carries several guns through the movie. One of them is an Colt SP1 with M16A2 hand guards, the rifle carried by most of the men of the BOPE in the movie.
Colt AR-15A2 Government Carbine
A Colt AR-15A2 Government Carbine is used by Caio Junqueira as Neto, during the 2nd half of the movie
Heckler & Koch HK94A3
A chopped and converted Heckler & Koch HK94A3 is used by Wagner Moura in several scenes, as noted by its lack of paddle magazine release and barrel lugs, and the metal lower receiver.
INA Model 953
The INA Model 953, the Brazilian version of the Danish Madsen M50 SMG. Recognized by its stamped metal body which, literally, is held together by the barrel nut (which was known to come loose on its own, spilling the internal mechanisms on the ground). Brazil manufactured it in .45 ACP instead of the standard 9mm.
Imbel MD97
This is a rifle derived from the FAL, made in Brazil by Industria de Material Bélico do Brasil, and widely used by the Brazilian police and military. It is carried by the actor in the background in these scenes, although it is never seen closely.
That is NOT an MD-97, is just an ordinary FAL, notice the shape of the magazine.
Unidentified rifles
In the opening scenes, Caio Junqueira opens fire with an unidentified scoped rifle. It might be an Imbel AGLC, but I can’t identify it with certainty. It's maybe IMBEL M/968 (old czech or belgian Mauser enhanced with new 0.308 barrel in the 60's). The new BOPE recruits can be seen training with rifles that are probably made in Brazil, but I can’t identify them (help requested).
12 Gauge pump shotguns
Several pump shotguns are seen in the hands of the BOPE agents. They are probably Brazilian-made guns, from CBC (companhia brasileira de cartuchos) or from Boito. I’m not familiarized with these shotguns, and therefore, cannot identify them (help requested).
It's surely CBC 586P (variant of Smith & Wesson 916) which is standard pump shotgun of BOPE.
Glock
Caio Junqueira uses 2 handguns in the movie: a Glock, and a Taurus PT-92. The Glock could be a Glock 19, 22 or 25. It's most likely a Glock 25 in .380 ACP.
Taurus PT-92
This handgun is used both by the police and by the Drug dealers
Uzi
A micro-Uzi (or a Uzi pistol) is used by one of the drug dealers in a shootout
Taurus revolver
André Ramiro uses both a Taurus PT-92, and a revolver, that I think is a Taurus model 83, although it is never seen close enough.
