Talk:Valkyria Chronicles

From Internet Movie Firearms Database - Guns in Movies, TV and Video Games

I hate to say it, but all of those guns only bear a vague, superficial resemblances to what you've identified them as; they're all fictional designs meant to create a WWII feel.--PistolJunkie 18:20, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

The previous Valkyria Chronicles page was removed as that creator lacked contribution, I felt that Valkyria Chronicles while many weapons are fictious are still deserving of a page due to their striking similarities to real world weapons. --User:Hellstorm901 19:19 (GMT), 12 December 2010

Then at least identify them as being fictional (just putting "Hybrid" in the section header doesn't cut it) instead of saying that they're something they're not! The only one that is actually close to what you've identified it as is the Nagant, and even that is screwed up (look at the cylinder).--PistolJunkie 19:11, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

It's my first time at creating a long winded page so I apologise for it not being up to scratch, I simply thought Hybrid would satisfy due to it being a creation from a real world weapon rather than purely a fictious weapon, I added fictional to the weapons which qualify however the handgun, revolver and grenades remain due to them not entirely being fictional. User:Hellstorm901 19:25 GMT, 12 December 2010

The handgun is fictional. Look at that shot of the muzzle. The profile it has is not even close to a 1911.--PistolJunkie 19:32, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for the corrections, I wonder why the designers went for a Gewehr type rifle anyways for the primary rifle, given that technology besides the superweapons is backdated heavily, such as tanks lacking machineguns even though they clearly have submachine guns I thought a bolt action weapon would be more fitting. User:Hellstorm901 19:50 GMT, 12 December 2010

Most of the weapons are intended to create the general WWI/WWII feel, but be different enough from the real weapons of that time period to solidify the fantasy setting. As for why they made the rifles semi-auto instead of bolt action; call me a cynic, but I'd bet money on it that they did that so that they wouldn't have to animate the soldiers cycling the bolts after every shot. Same reason the JSSDF guys in End of Evangelion used caseless rifles; less motion makes it easier and cheaper to animate.--PistolJunkie 19:47, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I think it'd be a good idea to include some shots of the weapons from the original PS3 game. The game has an archive/codex section where you can see in detail the models for characters, vehicles, weapons, etc. --HashiriyaR32 20:00, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm still thinking on removing the page. Most of the guns seem to be fictional and I don't think should be here. Excalibur01 20:11, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm an Xbox360 player so I cannot get to those archives however you yourself if you desire can add them if you want to give the base design of the weapon. User:Hellstorm901 20:23 GMT, 12 December 2010

I think we should remove all of them solely because none of them seem to be real weapons drawn in Anime form. Weapons simply BASED on real world weapons won't really cut it if a majority of the page is of the fictional weapons Excalibur01 22:06, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

They're not even really "based" on real weapons. I consider a fictional weapon based on a real one to be like the M-7 from S.A.C. where it's a fictional variant of a real weapon or bears a distinct mechanical similarity. These just "look kind of like" real weapons, and don't seem to have all that much thought put into them. The semi-auto rifles and pistols don't even stay on-model from shot to shot.--PistolJunkie 22:29, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Thus my request for the game shots (no PS3 here, sorry). No having to worry about model inconsistency there! --HashiriyaR32 23:30, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Not a bad point. This show cut so many corners in animation that it's just not funny. Call me a snob, but I couldn't make it past one episode it bugged me so much.--PistolJunkie 00:51, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
I actually made it halfway through the series before I dropped due to :effort:, and for no other reason. At that was around the time I discovered IMFDB (thank you AKA47 article on TVtropes) --HashiriyaR32 01:09, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Moved from main page

I recall the assault rifles is basically a compact version of the MP44 - Anonymous

No real guns

As cool as these guns seem, I am deleting them all. None of them are based on any real design. Maybe a little but, bu I see nothing too similar to real world counterparts. Excalibur01 18:02, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

Even if their all fake, if the article is staying we should probably leave one cap of each for trivia (i.e. tell the reader "yeah, they may look realistic, but their not actually based on anything") and completeness. Just because it's not real doesn't completely exclude it from being included in a media article, does it? Otherwise the Joshua and Jackal sections for Hellsing would be deleted too.--PistolJunkie 18:56, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
