The Abyss
Nice, but where's the trigger? This article or section is incomplete. You can help IMFDB by expanding it. |
The following firearms were used in the movie The Abyss:
MAC-10
A MAC-10 with a detachable barrel extension and no stock is used by the Navy SEALs.
SIG-Sauer P226
Lt. Hiram Coffey (Michael Biehn) carries a SIG-Sauer P226 9mm, the standard issue pistol for the U.S. Navy SEALs.
- I would need to see screencaps to be sure, but I remember the gun being a P220. The P226 may be used by the SEALs in real life, but the prop weapon used in the movie could have still been a P220.
- The only good shots of the gun itself are pretty dark, so it is hard to tell the diameter of the barrel; but, the rounds they show during the scene when Ed Harris tries to subdue Michael Biehn are clearly 9mm FMJ's.
- The diameter of the bore isn't necessary to tell if it's a P226 or not; in fact, it would be irrelevant because the earliest P220s were also 9mm. I would need to see if it has the double-stack creases on the sides of the frame. That's how you can tell a P226 apart from a P220. -MT2008
Just Watched it, after Coffey ([Biehn]) imprisons the crew there are clear shots of the pistol. It is definitely double stack, so it's a 226. I actually think it must of changed from random shot's like it looked like a P220 in one scene and then in another it looked like P226... But then again I really can't tell with Sig's they all look they same to me, heh.
Well, I watched this movie today, and if it's any help, there is a part where a SEAL brandishes the Sig magazine and starts popping out 9 millimeter FMJ's, but the magazine is a Single Stacked magazine of a P220 to my eye, so it could be the early edition of the P220 aforementioned.
One other note: Does anyone else think it odd that a trained Navy SEAL would not notice that the clip was missing from his weapon? Coffey has the pistol back in his posession for at least about 30 minutes after the medic takes the clip. There would be a noticable weight difference and a feel differece when the pinkie comes into contact with an empty mag well instead of the buttplate of the clip. I just think it's something he'd have noticed. However, Coffey is depicted as suffering from pressure-induced psychosis, delusions and paranoia which could explain why he failed to notice the weapon was empty.
M16A2
Or maybe M16A1 with A2 handguard. It is seen wielded by the Bethnic Explorer's Armed QM at the scene when the underwater alien palace rises from the sea.
Not utilized this way in the real world, putting the distinctive A2 handguards on the older rifle was a method used by Movie/TV armorers to simulate A2 rifles when M16A1s were the only ones available.
- I was watching it earlier n it was clearly a M16A2. The Winchester
AK-47
In the Special Edition version, two Soviet sailors (or Naval Infantrymen) were seen with AK-47 rifles slung over their shoulders when they saw massive tsunami threatening the Russian naval base.
