Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Nice, but where's the trigger? This article or section is incomplete. You can help IMFDB by expanding it. |
The following guns were used in the video game Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Colt M1911A1
In one level the player is given a pair of M1911A1 pistols to use, and can dual-wield them. Unusually, they are both reloaded entirely on-screen, rather than just releasing the magazines on-screen and then dropping them out of sight to avoid this as many games do.
FG42
Used by German paratroops and as per videogame norms is a supergun; the FG 42 combines the power of a rifle with reasonably fast fire [automatic, but at semi-auto speed] and a scope. In the late game it is more or less the default weapon the player will be using.
Karabiner 98k
The first long-ranged weapon the player aqcuires is a Karabiner 98k. Later in the game a scope can be found for it to make it even more effective; it is sometimes seen in the hands of enemies, but is nothing like as common as the MP40. Odly is depicted as a semi-automatic rifle with a integral 10 round magazine.
Luger P08
The first gun available in the game is a Luger P08 pistol. Later a silencer can be found for it.
Venom Minigun
The player and the Übersoldat cyborgs use "Venom" miniguns, portable belt-fed weapons which fire incredibly quickly.
MG42
In several levels mounted MG42 machine guns are present.
MP40
The most common weapon used by German soldiers, as usual in fictional WW2 settings, and is the third weapon the player can pick up. Ammunition for the MP40 is extremely common throughout most of the game.
Panzerfaust
Panzerfaust devices are the game's version of a rocket launcher; as usual, these are incorrectly depicted as launching rocket-assisted projectiles rather than being recoilless rifles. A smoking tube is left on the ground after each shot.
Sten
The Sten is presented as a silenced weapon using the same ammunition as the MP40 [which is true, but not from the same magazines!], and must be fired in bursts to prevent it overheating; if it overheats, there is a brief pause when it can't fire and steam [?] escapes from the barrel shroud. (Actually, the Sten gun was designed and is capable of using MP40 magazines, this so that users in occupied Europe could take advantage of captured enemy magazines). Indeed it was, in fact stens were commonly dropped by the British into occupied France to aid in the resistance.
Thompson
The player is given a Thompson submachine gun by a local Resistance member in a village. The .45 ACP ammo for it is unfortunately extremely rare.
M3 Carbine
Presented in game as an OSS-modified weapon called the "Snooper Rifle" fitted with a silencer [the barrel is the same shape as the normal M3, however] and using special ammunition, it uses the same scope configuration as the M3, and, surprisingly, is depicted with a realistic black-and-white image rather than the normal red or green tint seen in movies and videogames. Ammunition for this weapon is extremely rare.
Shotgun
Exclusive to the Xbox port, Tides of War.
