I'm posting it here, rather than the main page, in hopes it may jog others memory, or perhaps they have the DVDs and can share the appropriate screen caps.

Going from memory, Chief William O. "Bill" Gillespie (Carroll O'Connor) carred a Smith & Wesson N-Framed revolver, not sure which caliber, but my guess is .44 Magnum. I seem to recall it having a long barrel, either 6-1/2" or the 8-3/8" variety and was blued. In the first episode, if I recall correctly, he uses it to shoot a snake that mysteriously appears in his police cruiser, in connection with the "Voodoo" lore of the area.

In one episode, Capt. V.L. 'Bubba' Skinner (Alan Autry) used a Thompson/Center Contender found in Gillespie's country cabin when pursued by criminals. It was, ironically, the only weapon he could find in the cabin, however, in at least one other episode, it was noted that Gillespie kept a hideout revolver nearby when there.

Capt. V.L. 'Bubba' Skinner used a scoped bolt-action rifle, sorry I am unsure of the make, in several episodes.

Lt. Lonnie Jamison (Hugh O'Connor) carried a FN-FAL pattern rifle in at least one episode, where they busted a drug house. Bubba carried his scoped bolt-action rifle for that bust, too.

Chief William O. "Bill" Gillespie (Carroll O'Connor) pulled a scoped Ruger Mini-14 Stainless rifle, with extended magazine for a car stop in one episode. I believe he was in a Ford Explorer, and aimed across the hood of the Explorer at the oncoming car. - BC2009

Chief Gillespie may have used a Smith & Wesson earlier in the series, but I know that at one point he started using a Desert Eagle.
