Dresden is a 2006 German two-part television movie in which historically verified facts of the air raids on Dresden on February 13, 1945, were linked with a fictional story. Anna Mauth, a nurse from Dresden who is promised to surgeon Alexander Wenninger, falls in love with Robert Newman, a downed British bomber pilot who has sought refuge in the hospital where she works. When the Gestapo raids the hospital, Anna risks everything to save Robert's life and hides him in the catacombs of the Frauenkirche church. But as the Allied attack draws ever closer, Anna must realize who she has really saved and also what her feelings are for Robert.
