GAU-22/A

I don't think the F-35C in the intro has the gun pod - I could be wrong but I think it is still one of the problematic things they haven't got ready for approved carrier use yet.--AgentGumby (talk) 17:18, 29 May 2022 (EDT)

I couldn't really see for sure either, but I figure there's no harm in mentioning it until the movie hits home release and we can better examine the sequence. Spartan198 (talk) 10:38, 31 May 2022 (EDT)
To clarify - having rewatched, they don't have the GAU-22/A pod.--AgentGumby (talk) 14:07, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

P-51's Brownings

While the Mustang (it actually belongs to Tom Cruise) naturally doesn't have any functional weapons being a civilian-owned aircraft, I'm unsure whether it would have deactivated M2s in the wings, or simply nothing at all. Even if they're technically not there, it's probably worth mentioning that they're supposed to be. Alex T Snow (talk) 20:00, 31 May 2022 (EDT)

I'd say they're only supposed to be there if it's depicting a military aircraft, which it's not. Spartan198 (talk) 03:17, 3 June 2022 (EDT)
I re-watched the ending of the movie where Maverick takes Penny Benjamin for a ride in the Mustang, and you can see a set of three muzzles poking out of the leading edge of each wing, so at the very least the aircraft has dummy Brownings installed. Below is a screenshot I managed to snag.

Ship-mounted weapons

Normally Phalanxes and such are listed on our pages, though modern ships are not remotely my area of expertise so I'll defer to others for this info. I didn't catch which carrier(s) is featured in the film, but the ship that launches the Tomahawks was named as USS Leyte Gulf, for what that piece of trivia is worth. Alex T Snow (talk) 20:00, 31 May 2022 (EDT)

The carrier is the USS Abraham Lincoln. Spartan198 (talk) 03:17, 3 June 2022 (EDT)
Oh neat! I had the chance to tour that ship when I was a kid, so I'm always happy when it pops up somewhere (was in Stealth too). I drew a smiley face in the condensation on the same catapult control station thingy that's seen in the opening of this movie hahaha. :) Alex T Snow (talk) 03:56, 3 June 2022 (EDT)

"The Enemy"

I'll admit the origin of the Su-57s in the movie isn't clear (hence why I left them referred to as "Enemy"), but it's shown on maps that the target they're striking is in Iran and the only nation that has airworthy F-14s is Iran. The production may have wanted it to be ambiguous, but the latter two points make it pretty unambiguous that it's Iran. Spartan198 (talk) 03:17, 3 June 2022 (EDT)

Yeah, it's only ambiguous in a very tongue-and-cheek sort of way, much like the opposing side never being named in the original film (though apparently the script refers to the MiG-28s as North Korean). The maps, the airworthy F-14s, and the Uranium enrichment are all rather obviously Iran; it's very on the nose, and they clearly intend the audience to understand this.
