RDG-1 smoke grenade (Diagram)

The RDG-1 (Ruchnaya dymovaya granata, smoke hand grenade) is a Soviet smoke grenade (during its production lifespan, it was simply known as the "RDG" and was retroactively designated the RDG-1 only after the RDG-2 was put into service). The grenade was designed in 1941 by K. Khess in besieged Leningrad. No less than 6.87 million pieces were produced until the end of the war. In the 1950s, the RDG-1 was replaced by the more advanced RDG-2.
