SIG-Sauer MCX Spear
The MCX Spear is variant unveiled in 2019 and designed for the United States Army's Next Generation Squad Weapon program. It is based on the MCX-MR, SIG-Sauer's previous unsuccessful submission for the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System program. The commercial version of the MCX Spear became available in January 2022, and the rifle was announced as the winner of the NGSW program in April 2022, with its designation being the "XM5".
A carbine version with an 8" barrel and a receiver nearly identical to the MCX-MR was previously unveiled in late 2018. Further info about it was disclosed in late 2021, when its name was revealed as the MCX Raptor.
