Izhmekh IZh-K
Izhmekh IZh-K is a direct predecessor of the IZh-17, produced from 1955 to 1964. It can be distinguished by a groove on the foregrip. The Izh-K is representative of the family of single-barrel shotguns, which also includes the earlier ZK (1949 - 1955), and Izh-KM (1956 - 1958).
Since all these shotguns are extremely similar and it is impossible to distinguish them (except for markings), they will all be assigned to this category.

Izhmekh IZh-17
The Izhmekh IZh-17 is a close relative of the IZh-18 except it has an exposed hammer. Both shotguns are descendants of the ZK (Zlatoust - Kazantsev) shotgun and its Izhevsk version, the IZh-K. The IZh-17 was less popular than the IZh-18 and was produced for a relatively short time.

Izhmekh IZh-18
The Izhmekh IZh-18 is a Soviet/Russian single-barreled hammerless shotgun. It appeared in 1964, replacing the IZh-KB (1960 - 1963) and is still currently produced under a new brand Baikal MP-18M. One of the most modern versions of the IZh-18 is a top-break single shot rifle, the MP-18MN that is produced in numerous calibers from .223 to 9.3x74R.
During its long life, the IZh-18 was very popular among hunters for its low price and decent quality. Its wide availability lead to the use of IZh-18s in an unusual role: in numerous Soviet historical movies of the 1960s to the 1990s, visually modified shotguns stand-in for flintlock and percussion lock muskets and even pistols (in the latter case with sawed-off barrels and stocks). A typical feature of all models of IZh-18 is a spur on the trigger guard that allows to identify this gun even in musket disguise.
The IZh-KB (means "IZh-K bezkurkovoye", i.e. hammerless version of IZh-K) is the direct predecessor of the IZh-18. It was produced in 1960-1963 in a relatively small amount. The IZh-KB was chambered in 16, 20, 28 and 32 gauge. The visual difference from the IZh-18 is the handguard with grasping grooves that was inherited from the IZh-K.
