TKB-408 - 7.62x39mm

The TKB-408 (Тульское Конструкторское Бюро, образец № 408; Tula Design Bureau, model number 408) - is an experimental prototype of a Soviet assault rifle, developed in 1946 by G.A. Korobov at TsKIB SOO to participate in the competition for a new assault rifle for the Soviet Army. According to the results of this competition, TKB-408 showed unsatisfactory results in both accuracy of fire and survivability, and dropped out of the competition after only 5000 shots were fired. As a result, the famous 7.62-mm Kalashnikov assault rifle won this competition.

Action is based on the gas-operated reloading, locking was performed by rotating bolt. The gas piston and recoil spring are located above the barrel. The ejection port is located on the right, there is a ejection port cover that folds down. The cocking handle is located above the forend on the left. The barrel is equipped with a compensator. The fire selector is located on the left side of the receiver above the pistol grip. The rifle uses special 30-round magazines, which have special protrusions-hooks, for attachment to the latch located at the bottom of the pistol grip.
