A Call to Spy details the exploits of real-life spies hired by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and sent into France during World War II, written, produced, and starring Sarah Megan Thomas as American-born agent Virginia Hall. In addition to Virginia Hall, real-life SOE agents and administrators are depicted, including Vera Atkins (Stana Katic), Maurice Buckmaster (Linus Roache), and Noor Inayat Khan (Radhika Apte).

Luger P08

Virginia Hall (Sarah Megan Thomas) uses a Luger P08 when demonstrating how the French resistance can incorporate firearms into their work, instructing that "when you use a gun, double tap: torso, head." Lugers are also prominently used by German Army soldiers and Vichy officers.

MP40

Some SS personnel carry MP40 submachine guns, though the Karabiner 98k is seen in greater numbers as the standard weapon carried by the German military. Virginia's Maquis contact Alfonse (Andrew Richardson) also handles an MP40.
