And Quiet Flows the Don (Tikhiy Don ) is a co-production British-Russian-Italian drama mini-series, a screen adaptation of the famous novel by Mikhail Sholokhov. It depict the fate of a Don Cossack family during the World War One, Russian revolution and civil war. The series was directed by Sergey Bondarchuk and filmed in 1990-1992 but due to the bankruptcy of the Italian film studio, the unfinished film and all working materials were confiscated by the lending bank. Only in 2005 the materials were purchased back, and the series, finished by Sergey Bondarchuk's son Fyodor Bondarchuk , was at last released in 2006.
The TV series is the third screen adaptation of Sholokhov's novel, following the 1930 B&W movie and the 1957-1958 three-part movie directed by Sergey Gerasimov , and preceeding the 2015 TV series directed by Sergey Ursulyak.
