Hearts of the World

Hearts of the World (also known as Love's Struggle) is a 1918 American silent World War I propaganda film written, produced and directed by D. W. Griffith (The Birth of a Nation). The story begins just before the beginning of the First World War in a small French village known for its idyllic atmosphere. A girl who lives with her grandparents falls in love with an American boy living there. The two conspire. A few days before the wedding, soldiers are mobilized and the men go to war. The boy also feels obliged to fight for the country in which he lives.

German troops use the Maxim MG08 machine guns which seem to be mock ups.

Model 15 Stielhandgranate
German soldiers use Model 15 Stielhandgranates. The Little Disturber (Dorothy Gish) uses this grenade at the end. They are probably mockups

French soldiers including the Boy use unknown grenades.
