Walking Tall
Theatrical Release Poster
Walking Tall is a 1973 action drama directed by Phil Karlson and stars Joe Don Baker as Buford Pusser, a former US Marine and professional wrestler who returned to his hometown in Tennessee only to find that it has been corrupted by gambling and prostitution. Angered by the authorities' nonaction, Pusser decides to run for sheriff and upon his win, proceeds to clean the town up, usually with an array of wooden clubs. Inspired by a true story, the film met box office success, leading to two direct sequels: Walking Tall Part 2 (1975) and Walking Tall: Final Chapter (1977), both starring Bo Svenson as Pusser. A feature film remake starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was released in 2004 and also was followed by two DTV sequels: Walking Tall: The Payback and Walking Tall: Lone Justice , both of which starred Kevin Sorbo and were released in 2007.
