Werder M1869
The Kingdom of Bavaria isslued Werdergewehr M/1869 as the main service rifle. It was designed by Johann L. Werder, based on the Peabody falling block action, and chambered for 11x50mm R centerfire metallic cartridge. In 1870s Bavarian Werder rifles were re-chambered into M1869 Aptiertes Werder, using same 11x60mm R cartridge as the Prussian Mauser Gewehr 1871. The Werder remained the service rifle of Bavarian army until replaced by the Gewehr 1888. In addition to full-length Infantry rifle, two short versions existed: cavalry carbine Karabiner M/69, and gendarmerie carbine Gendarmeriekarabiner M/69. About 127,000 pieces of all models was produced.
Werder also invented a single-shot pistol with same action as the rifle. It was known as "Bavarian Lightning pistol" because of its high rate of fire.
