The Beretta 92F is the standard issue weapon of the Sparta Police Department, and as such is used by most of the main characters on a regular basis.
Desert Eagle
Chief William O. "Bill" Gillespie (Carroll O'Connor) regularly carries a stainless Desert Eagle in the later seasons of the show. Previously, he carried a Smith & Wesson revolver.
Smith and Wesson Model 15
The Smith & Wesson Model 15 revolver is regularly used by Chief of Detectives Virgil Tibbs (Howard Rollins), as well as any officers that are on plainclothes assignments.
Smith and Wesson Model 28
Most of the officers in the earlier years of the show carry .357 Smith & Wesson Model 28 revolvers as their sidearms.
Smith and Wesson Model 57
In the earlier years of the show most officers carry Smith & Wesson Model 57 .41 magnum firearms.
