Shaft is a 2000 action film starring Samuel L. Jackson as the title character, who is an NYPD detective that happens to be the nephew of John Shaft (Richard Roundtree ) of the original 1971 film . The film was directed by John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood ) and co-stars Vanessa Williams , Jeffrey Wright , and Christian Bale .

Detective John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson ) carries a Glock 19 as his onduty handgun. Note that the Glock 19 used in the movie is a 3rd Generation model; while the Glock 19 had appeared in numerous previous films and television series before Shaft , this appears to be the first movie to feature the 3rd Generation model, which had only been introduced the year before this film went into production (1999).
