Talk:Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory
The Time period of this series
I'm beginning to think this show takes place in an alternate early 2000s since something about Sousuke's XM8C being used, and Kaname's flip up phone never being updated to current time. Excalibur01 (talk) 17:41, 23 April 2018 (EDT)
- Well this series is suppose to be the continuation of the story and since it hasn't even been a year since Sousuke showed up in Kaname's life, it's a nice touch that they maintain the proper timeline instead of suddenly giving everyone smart phones.--Wildcards (talk) 00:34, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
- On that topic, the white board in the student council room says it's for the student council of class of Heisei 11 year (平成 11 年), which would be 1999 if I'm not mistaken.--Wildcards (talk) 00:43, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
- I remember the production crew at GONZO saying that the anime version started in the early 2000s... Ominae (talk) 07:18, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
- That would account for Sousuke's XM8 since it was the hotness gun of that period and Mithril is known to have advanced weapons in their arsenal though oddly I would have thought a standard sidearm for Tessa's escort be a more updated 1911 if that was the case. - It's good on the producers of this series to keep with the original continuity, overdue as this season is (frankly, it should have been made decades ago since the source material is already finished and not many newer fans have even heard of the original series). Animated series are notorious for "sliding continuity" where it's always "the current year" (for the viewers when the shows originally came out). Another major comeback animation series that had its previous season in 2000, named Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card, has the titular character age only three years (back from when the series first started airing in 1998) and yet somehow be able to make a video call with a smartphone to someone overseas, as if the entire cast took a time machine to the late 2010s without ageing more than three years. If Clear Card used a more realistic continuity, Sakura would have had to place an overseas phone call to the other character while paying through the nose for the privilege (something that many younger viewers would know nothing about). --Mazryonh (talk) 21:08, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
- Another short continuation of an old series was the Digimon Tri. They remembered it was the late 90s early 2000s with all the tech like CDs and shit Excalibur01 (talk) 00:55, 25 April 2018 (EDT)
- Then that's good on them too. If you're interested, you might want to check out this link which convincingly makes the case that a sliding timescale (AKA "Marvel Time") for dramatic stories destroys reader trust, characterization, plot, reader excitement, and continuity. --Mazryonh (talk) 23:04, 26 April 2018 (EDT)
Someone in the page stated the SUV Sousuke was driving was a Pajero. We could probably deduce the general year from what model it looks like. Excalibur01 (talk) 10:22, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
- It is. Not sure on the gen model, but I've seen them around Manila/Hong Kong and stuff. Ominae (talk) 10:46, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
Sousuke's Glock
I think this time the animator might've actually went with Glock 19 which is the one he carried in the original light novel.--Wildcards (talk) 00:43, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
- May be possible. Though he had a Glock 26 and the animation at GONZO and Kyo Ani just messed this up since animation errors made the 26 look like a 19. Ominae (talk) 07:18, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
- I think until they zoom in for a close up to show model number, we'll state it "appears" to be a Glock 19 until otherwise stated based on the size. Excalibur01 (talk) 10:06, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
This series seems to be mostly more detailed with it comes to their guns Excalibur01 (talk) 10:10, 24 April 2018 (EDT)
Also, the way they had Sousuke grip is Glock bothers me. It looked like a tea cup hold but I think IF the gun was supposed to be a Glock 26, it would make sense Excalibur01 (talk) 00:56, 25 April 2018 (EDT)
