Type 87 Chu-MAT with laser designator dismounted: the designator is visible on its small tripod to the right of the launcher.

The Type 87 Chu-MAT is a Japanese SACLOS guided crew-served heavy anti-tank missile launcher developed in the 1970s alongside the smaller Type 79 Jyu-MAT as a replacement for the obsolete MCLOS Type 64 MAT missile system. Unusually for a ground-mounted ATGM system, the Chu-MAT uses SALH (semi-active laser homing) as its guidance method, with the missile seeking reflected light from an emitter which can either be mounted on the launcher tripod or on its own tripod up to 220 yards (200m) from the launcher.
