Long Road in the Dunes (original Latvian title Ilgais ceļš kāpās; original Russian title Dolgaya doroga v dyunakh) is a Soviet Latvian 1982 (filmed 1980—1981) historical mini series directed by Aloizs Brencs. The story is set in Latvia and covers the period from 1939 to 1970s. The main storyline is the love story of fisherman Arthur Banga (Juozas Kiselius) and Martha Ozols (Lilita Ozolina).
The following weapons were used in the film Long Road in the Dunes (Ilgais ceļš kāpās):
Many of Soviet Militsia personnel in Ep.3, set in 1940 in Soviet Latvia, and Red Army officers and NCOs in Eps.4 and 5, set in 1941-1944, carry Nagant M1895 revolvers. They are mostly seen in holsters.
Pistols
Walther PPK
In Eps.1 and 2, set in 1939-1940, Latvian police officers carry Walther PPK pistols.
Tokarev TT-33
In one scene in Ep.2 a Latvian Army officer holds a pistol that appears to be out of place Soviet TT-33. A Red Army officer holds a TT in one scene in Ep.4. Maj. Andris Kalnins (Karlis Trencis) holds a TT (instead of previously seen Nagant) during the shootout with "Forest Brothers" in Ep.5.
Luger P08
Luger P08 pistols are widely used by German officers in Eps.4 and 5. They are mostly seen in holsters. Aleksandr Yefimov (Yevgeni Zharikov), posing as German Ober-Lt., also uses a Luger.
Submachine Guns
PPSh-41
In Ep.5, set in 1944, many Soviet soldiers are armed with PPSh-41 SMGs.
MP38
German soldiers, Waffen SS Latvian Legion soldiers and "Forest Brothers" carry MP38 and MP40 SMGs in Ep.5.
MP40
German soldiers, Waffen SS Latvian Legion soldiers and "Forest Brothers" carry MP38 and MP40 SMGs in Ep.5.
Rifles
Vz.16/33 Czech Mauser
In Ep.1, set in 1939, Aizsargi (Latvian paramilitary organization in 1920s-1930s) Valdis (Voldemars Sorins), Bruno (Martins Verdins) and Zigis Aboltynsh (Roland Zagorskis) carry Vz.16/33 Czech Mauser carbines. In reality service rifle of Aizsargi was Pattern 1914 Enfield rifle. In Ep.3 same three Aizsargi use their rifles in shootout with Soviet People's Militia.
Karabiner 98k
In Ep.2, set in 1940, soldiers of Latvian army carry Karabiner 98k rifles. In reality 98k rifles were never issued to Latvian troops. German soldiers are armed with 98k rifles in Eps.4 and 5, set in 1941-1944.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
In Ep.2, set in 1940, soldiers of Latvian army are also armed with full-lenght Mauser rifles that appear to be Mauser Gewehr 1898 rifles but have turned down bolt handles. According to Mauser Military Rifles of the World by Robert W. D. Ball, such combination was used on Radfahrer Gewehr 98 (Bicycle Troops Rifle) and on standard Gewehr 98, modified in 1915-16 for use as sniper rifles. Standard Mauser 98 rifle is carried by Bruno (Martins Verdins) in Ep.4.
Pattern 1914 Enfield
Pattern 1914 Enfield rifles are also carried by Latvian soldiers in Ep.2. P14 was the standard rifle of Latvian army.
Mosin Nagant M1891/30
In Ep.3, set in 1940 in Soviet Latvia, members of People's Militia carry Mosin Nagant M1891/30 rifles. Many Red Army soldiers carry M91/30 rifles in Ep.4, set in 1941. In Ep.5 Peteris (Egons Beseris) uses an M91/30 rifle (it switches from previously seen Mauser Gewehr 98).
Mosin Nagant M1891
Old Mosin Nagant M1891 rifles are carried by some Red Army soldiers in one scene in Ep.4, set in Summer 1941.
MAS-36
In one scene in Ep.4 one of marching German soldiers carries not a Karabiner 98k, as his comrades-in-arms, but a different rifle that looks like French MAS-36.
Shotguns
Double Barreled Shotgun
Numerous Double Barreled Shotguns are seen in the house of Manfred Zingrueber (Uldis Dumpis), Richard Losberg's German friend, in Ep.2, set in 1940.
