Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is a 2017 FPS. It is the eighth major entry in the Wolfenstein series and a direct sequel to 2014's Wolfenstein: The New Order. The game is set in 1960's United States of America (known as "The American Territories") in an alternate universe, where Nazi Germany has won the Second World War and is currently the only superpower in the world. The player reprises the role of William "B.J" Blazkowicz, who has barely survived the events of the prequel and is now charged with meeting with the surviving resistance groups in the United States and organizing for a revolution against the Nazi regime.
Gameplay Overview
Gameplay is similar to the previous game: a single-player-focused shooter where B.J. can carry all weapons (excluding heavy ones) as well as several grenades and hatchets (which replace knives). Despite his condition, B.J can still dual-wield weapons, though this time he can wield different ones on either hand. Weapon upgrades are now acquired by finding upgrade kits hidden throughout the levels.
The following weapons make an appearance in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus:
Handguns
"Pistole"
A heavily modified Luger P08, this weapon makes a return from makes a return from Wolfenstein: The New Order as the weapon of choice of Nazi officers (although, unlike that game's 3-round burst "Handgun 1960", this weapon is semi-auto only, and called the "Pistole"). Several upgrades can be applied to the "Pistole" throughout the campaign, including a suppressor, an extended magazine, and a "Magnum" upgrade, which increases the damage (and also the recoil) of the weapon.
"Kampfpistole"
A further modified version of The Old Blood's altered Kampfpistole is available, now being fed by a 6-round detachable drum, instead of the previous game's breech-loaded version. Upgrades include a shoulder stock to reduce recoil, a spring loader that allows the gun to fire a 3-round salvo, and modified ammo that flies like rockets.
Submachine Guns
"Maschinenpistole"
The "Maschinenpistole" is essentially the counterpart to the SMG from the previous game's prologue, being the standard-issue weapon for Nazi soldiers stationed in the American Territories. Its design is primarily based on various Cold War-era submachine guns such as the Carl Gustav M/45 and the Smith & Wesson 76. Upgrades include an integral suppressor, a drum magazine that doubles its capacity, and an odd "Nailgun" mod which fires heated bullets at a slower speed.
Assault Rifles
"Sturmgewehr"
The "Sturmgewehr" returns from The New Order, albeit with a slightly different model from the TNO's "Assault Rifle 1960." In terms of visuals, it still has the StG-44-esque forend and barrel profile (albeit with a more AK-47-like front sight post), with the lower receiver, pistol grip, and magazine of an FN LAR, and the trigger guard and rear sight from a SIG SG 550-series rifle. It has a slightly downgraded capacity of 30 rounds compared to its predecessor, and is wielded by elite soldiers. Upgrades include jungle-taped dual magazines, a scope that converts the weapon to into a semi-auto marksman rifle, and armor-piercing rounds.
