Talk:Winchester Model 1895
Favorite Winchester
The 1895 is my favorite. I own one of the new production versions in 30-06. Because of the stock configuration it kicks harder than a modern bolt action rifle in 30-06, but who cares? It's a great rifle.
It is pretty neat looking, especially the carbine version. It'd be awesome to have it in Red Dead Redemption 2. Spartan198 (talk) 03:45, 11 June 2017 (EDT)
Early Ammunition?
Does anyone know what was the standard or most common ammunition used in the Winchester 1895 during the 19th Century, between 1895-1900?--Z008MJ (talk) 19:34, 20 September 2012 (EDT)
- Narrowing it down to that time frame I think the only available calibers would be .30-40 Krag, .38-72 WCF and .40-72 WCF. The latter two were new cartridges introduced especially for the 1895, so would assume that the most popular one would be the pre-existing, tested, and available .30-40 Krag. According to this very informative article, 75% of the 1895s made that were not part of the Russian contract for 7.62×54mmR guns (which accounted for about 70% of total 1895s) were chambered in the .30-40 Krag. I think another very popular caliber was the .405 Winchester (not introduced till 1904 though), partially due to the fact that Teddy Roosevelt used 1895s chambered in this. -commando552 (talk) 20:15, 20 September 2012 (EDT)
Thanks a lot, very informative. I did suspect the .30-40 Krag to be most common but were uncertain whether the Winchester ones were more of a standard or if .303 British ones were used. Thanks again, though.--Z008MJ (talk) 08:00, 21 September 2012 (EDT)
