Model 15 Stielhandgranate "Potato Masher" with spoon.

The Model 15 Stielhandgranate was the first stick grenade used by German troops. It was the predecessor for the Model 17 Stielhandgranate and the infamous Model 24 Stielhandgranate that used by the Wehrmacht in WW2. The grenade featured a long stick with a string coming from the bottom attached to the stick with tape. This early model existed in various versions as regards the pot and the stick. There were pots with beading up and down, curl down and the lid was held by clips or an attached lid and bottom. The sticks were initially versions without the known screw cap, but this often led to accidental ignition and to accidents, and sticks with an impact detonator and spoon safety.
