Darkest of Days is a first-person shooter that tells the story of Alexander Morris, a soldier fighting during Custer's Last Stand at Little Bighorn, who is suddenly dragged through time and becomes a post-22nd century agent for the corporation Kronotek, a corporation who strive to preserve and protect history and who's founder has disappeared leading to various disturbances in time causing various historical figures to be put into danger. Morris as well as fellow agent Dexter go through various time periods to ensure these figures survive, all the while battling a mysterious group called the Opposition. Since the game's feature is time travel, Morris goes to a myriad of historical places, including the Civil War Battle of Antiedam, the WWI Battle of Tannenburg, a WWII-era POW camp and Pompeii during the famous Mount Vesuvius Eruption. All these locations come with a group of historically accurate weapons and Morris is usually given a weapon from the 22nd Century to "even the odds" as the game puts it.
The following weapons appear in video game Darkest of Days:
The first weapon that Morris gets to use is the Colt 1860 Army, first used at the Little Bighorn battle and later used during the Antietam Campaign. While not packing the punch of the Civil War rifles, it does give you a quick reloading weapon besides the Henry. The gun's reload animation is very inaccurate as it shows Morris breaking the Colt open on a invisible hinge to swap cylinders.
Mauser C96 "Broomhandle"
The Mauser C96 pistol appears during the World War 1 segments of the game. Similar to the Colt 1860, the C96 adds a faster firing and reloading weapon to the slower bolt-action rifles in the World War 1 segments. The reload animation has a very hilarious goof as it has Morris reload the C96 by jamming the stripper clip into the rear sight rather than the ejection port.
The Mauser C96 comes with another goof besides the reload. The gun seen in-game fires fully-automatically. The era it is used in, that being 1914 during the Battle of Tannenburg, was far off from the time the Mauser M712 Schnellfeuer pistol was even developed, so the fact that the gun fires fully-automatically in-game is historically inaccurate.
Luger P08
The German Sidearm for the World War 1 and World War 2 segments is the Luger P08, specifically the long barreled "Artillery" Model.
"DNGr Pistol"
The DNGr Pistol is a post-22nd century side-arm that Morris is given on some missions, like most of the other post-22nd century firearms. It comes with a LAM activated via pressure switch duct taped to the grip.
Rifles
1860 Henry
The Henry 1860 rifle appears in the game, specifically during the Antietam missions and during the Little Bighorn segment. It is always seen with it's leaf sight raised and is inaccurately loaded from a side gate, as the Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy", rather than from the front of the barrel.
Enfield Pattern 1853
One of the Union's many main rifles during the Civil War, the Enfield Pattern 1853 appears in the game, inaccurately called the "Springfield Musket" and is used during the Antietam missions. The gun mounts a useful bayonet and during the reload animation, Morris doesn't put a percussion cap on the nipple.
Morgan James Rifle
The Morgan James Rifle is used during the Antietam campaign. It's very useful for sniping, but like the Springfield Musket has a slow reload time. Also like the Springfield Musket, a percussion cap is never placed during the reload animation. The weapon also appears wrapped in burlap sacking to camouflage it.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
The mainstay arm for the German Army for World War 1, the Mauser Gewehr 1898 is seen in the hands of German troops for both World War 1 and World War 2 missions. It comes in both standard infantry versions as well as a lovely Sniper version. The sniper version appears to be fixed with a WWII era ZF41 scope for the G98's "son", the Kar98k, therefore making it anachronistic for the WWI sections of the game. During the WWII missions, all German soldiers somehow always armed with a Mauser rifles with the scopes, which is very strange.
Mosin Nagant 1891
The Mosin-Nagant M1891, or as the game calls it, the Nagant, is the Russian counterpart to the Gewehr 1898 and is found in reasonable supply during the World War 1 missions.
Submachine Guns
MP-34
The Steyr MP34 submachine gun appears during the World War 2 segments in the hands of the German troops, an odd choice as the MP40 was much more prevalent though it makes sense as all the WWII sections take place in reserve areas. Strangely, the in-game MP34 is equipped with Trommelmagazin 08 (32rd "snail" drum magazine) from the Bergmann MP18.
"Assault Rifle-55"
One of the many futuristic weapons in the game, the Assault Rifle 55 is given to the player at random intervals, such as during the Antietam missions or during the Pompeii missions.
"Automatic Machine Pistol-60"
A futuristic flechette rifle given to the player on random occasions, usually when he is facing enemies wielding muskets, or bronze spears and swords.
Machine Guns
Maxim Gun
The standard German machine gun seen during the World War 1 and World War 2 segments is this weird Maxim Gun hybrid. It is a mix of a MG 08's sledge mount and a Maxim M1910/30's barrel jacket.
Shotguns
"C07 Shotgun"
Another 22nd Century firearm given to Morris as "leverage", this time being a semi-auto shotgun the player gets during some of the World War 1 missions
Rocket Launchers
"MA-22 Rocket Launcher"
A futuristic rocket launcher Morris gets his hands on, which operates like a FGM-148 Javelin on steroids.
Flamethrowers
"FMG Heat Gun"
A futuristic flamethrower given to Morris, fittingly enough, during the Pompeii Mission.
Grenades
Hybrid hand grenade
A fictional hybrid hand grenade used in missions set in World War 1 and World War 2. The grenade appears to be a mixture of a Model 24's stick mechanism with the head replaced with a Mills Bomb.
Cannons
Civil War Cannon
In the Civil War missions, various cannons can be seen used by both Union and Confederate troops, and Morris does get to use one at one point.
German Howitzer
During the World War 1 Missions, Morris can run into some unusable German Howitzers. It's unknown what type of howitzers they are, the best guess would be a Krupp type.
