It just makes it easier for everyone. The vast majority of users wouldn't even know how to create an en dash or multiplication sign. Hyphens and x's are the standard. --Funkychinaman (talk) 05:01, 5 June 2014 (EDT)

Not to talk out of turn, but all of this was addressed not long ago with another user - User_talk:TitaniumAlloy#Your_Edits Note that that user didn't take heed and ended up banned. Nobody really is concerned about this; You're addressing a problem when there isn't one, and frankly, there are better and more substantial ways the site can be improved.
