True Detective - Season 1 stars Matthew McConaughey as Rustin "Rust" Cohle and Woody Harrelson as Martin "Marty" Hart, two Louisiana State Police homicide detectives who investigate a bizarre series of ritualistic murders in 1995. Their investigation is framed and interlaced by their testimony seventeen years later, as the now former detectives are interviewed Detectives Maynard Gilbough (Michael Potts) and Thomas Papania (Tory Kittles) after a series of similar murders occurs. Season 1 consists of eight episodes, all of which were written by Nic Pizzolato and directed by Cary Joji Fukanaga.

Detective Martin "Marty" Hart (Woody Harrelson) carries a Smith & Wesson Model 629 with a snub nose barrel as his sidearm in 1995. A gang member also appears to draw a similar Model 629 when a drug stash house is raided in episode 4, "Who Goes There".
