Re: Nothing But Trouble

Appreciate some of your posts on there, I've given ya a special mention on the 'Talk' section for that page. Anything that improves what I could have only hoped to be a decently acceptable first page. I was surprised to not see it on the site though, I enjoy the film quite a bit. StanTheMan 01:55, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Screencapping

Just wondering how you are screencapping your movies? Are you just using a screengrab off your monitor? You may want to use VLC player to get better results. Also, don't forget to cut off the black bars and make sure your aspect ratio is set to 16:9 widescreen. --Ben41 10:51, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm... you're right. I'm gonna use the VLC player from now on... and cut the black bars properly.. Warejaws 12:31, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

BTW: good job on the Already dead page, but ...

In the IMFDB rules, you don't hyperlink the gun titles, but put it in the body of the description. Just a reminder. Thanks. MoviePropMaster2008 22:25, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

BTW, PNGS are not allowed

BTW, on Feast all the screenshots uploaded were PNG files. Sorry, but only Jpegs are allowed (check the rules). PNG images will be deleted/replaced. If you have any difficulty converting them, please let us know. MoviePropMaster2008 09:07, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi

Hi--Mpe2010 20:42, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Sorry but i am not Finnish. I am from Wyoming, USA and am doing fine. I have pretty limited experience with handguns but i like most Rugers, Berettas, and i sort of like glocks. My favorite handgun round is either 9mm or .40.--Mpe2010 20:43, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

I have had a very limited experience with 1911s. I believe i have only shot one once. I would like to own one someday, if only they were not so darn expensive.

Okay some RULES for the I Robot page

If you replace my screencaps, they must adhere to the rules. No PNGS, no Black Bars, they MUST be better quality or away they go. I recommend the same frame or similar frames, but if you get a better angle, by all means do it. DON'T dump tons of questionable screenshots in the same section. I am NOT one of those members who like tons of screencaps on a section unless there are reasons for it. Multiple shots ONLY if you get better angles on the gun or showcase different characters firing or holding the gun. Or if there is a continuity break. Thanks. I look forward to seeing your edits. Per Stantheman's comments, I will do a little cleanup on the alignments. MoviePropMaster2008 03:05, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

Adding films for feature article ( I Robot)

When adding films for the front page featured article, make sure you rewrite the captions for the screenshots indicating what weapon was used and in what movie. For examples, take a look at the Template_talk:FeaturedArticle page. --Ben41 01:23, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

A-Team 2010

I don't where you got these caps from, but the DVD is not out until Dec. 11, 2010, so please do NOT put these up on the page or they will be deleted. --Ben41 00:44, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

The A-Team screencaps

Thanks for the heads up. We technically don't have to delete them, but I'm kinda torn on this. Ben41 is erring on the side of caution. But you can ask him not to delete them. I surely won't delete anything. I have no problem making them invisible until the official release date. But Ben41 may have a point. If any studio lawyer looks at the page and SEES the date of the uploading of the image and it is weeks before the U.S. release date (and we are a U.S. based site) he might get all annoyed at us. They may not think or care about other countries' release dates. I think the only time we allow that is if the movie was NEVER released in the U.S. But that is rare. I think that is the reason other Mods desire to be safe and delete stuff. If that is a concern for other Mods, I cannot argue with that logic. Keep the files safe on your Hard drive and then we can fix up the page after the U.S> release date. :) MoviePropMaster2008 01:31, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Your uploads are still there, so you can use them for the page. --Ben41 12:24, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

The Way of the Gun

Great pics! Could you up-load this shot in Blu-Ray? You can see in the Series 70 rollmarks on the Blu-Ray version. Thanks.--Predator20 20:56, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Error creating thumbnail: File missing

No.. no those pics look great! I have it on Blu-Ray now but had no way to cap it. So the screencaps I added were from the regular dvd. Need to add it to the feature article now. --Predator20 21:06, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

From Dusk till Dawn

God man you're going to redo all my images. I'm glad you did on From Dusk till Dawn. :) The 1911 used Tarantino had me stumped on the manufacturer, despite close ups I never could tell because of the image quality. But when you re-uploaded this one I was able to figure it out. --Predator20 23:59, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

I had planned on redoing all the shotgun screenshots when I redid the others, but got distracted and went on to something else. So no biggie now that you're doing them. Tarantino often ends up going with the lower end 1911s, he used a Rock Island in Planet Terror. From what I read those Norinco's are said to great copies. They used extremely hard steel. --Predator20 00:23, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
I didn't think to look where you're from. I guess where you're at you have slim pickens when it comes to firearm choice. They think we're crazy here too for owning a gun or wanting to. I personally haven't handled a Norinco, they got banned from importation just after a few years. They come up for sale every so often usually the $500 range. --Predator20 01:07, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

re: delete

Done but next time give them to me like this otherwise I have to some copying and pasting. http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Image:007_Phantom.png --Predator20 20:03, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

RE: screencaping

I usually screencap with SnagIt, but now I use Snipping Tool, a software that comes with Window 7. I use Window Media Player to play most of my movies and sometimes KMPlayer if I want to play HD content. I mostly screencap from DVDs unless I have a Blu-Ray or HD digital copy (only available with Blu-Ray dvds). Sometimes, Window Media Player ruins my screencaping so I use KMPlayer. For HD stuff, I use the KMPlayer and leave it unmodified. Also, the way to screencap depends on the program you use. - Kenny99 21:06, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I dragged the sides of the media player I'm using to make it larger. The reason why I use other players rather than a VLC is because the VLC usually goes blank even though the file I open up is DVD file. - Kenny99 21:29, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. - Kenny99 21:47, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Screencapping 2

What are you using to screencap your films? Your recent Machete file looks a bit blocky. You may want to try Fast Stone Image Viewer. --Ben41

I've found that VLC screencaps saved directly as JPG's tend to be of inferior quality. That's why I save them as PNG's first and then convert them with Fast Stone to JPG. As for tweaking the image, you can do that in VLC by clicking on "Tools", going to "Effects and Filters", then to "Video Effects". Image Adjust should allow you to adjust the image.

--Ben41 07:42, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Your screencaps do look a lot better. As for deletions, just let me know which ones. --Ben41 08:29, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

I've deleted screenshots for Takers.

Thanks for informing me and they've been deleted. --Ben41 19:38, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Killshot 1911s

It looks like they used three different 1911s. Because your screenshots are so good, the slide markings are easy to read. The third screencap I'm not 100% sure though. --Predator20 23:44, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

KS Synthetic stock 870

It could be a Smith & Wesson 3000 Shotgun, they are a close copy of the Rem 870. But the forend style and that fact that it doesn't overlap the barrel loop behind the mag tube. Makes me think it's a Smith. It could be an aftermarket forend. But I've only seen that particular style on the Smiths.

Dark Blue

Great work on the page! It's really shaping up. The unknown 1911, I would just put in the Colt Government section. While it's your page since you're doing most of the work. Generally I put the main actors standard sidearms first. Since that's what most people will be curious about when checking out the page.--Predator20 17:05, 14 April 2011 (CDT)

The Feast

It appears they have a continuity error, with the shotgun used. The shotgun used by Eric Dane is an 870. But the one used by I guess it's his wife, the trigger guard and furniture is different. The trigger guard resembles the Winchester 1200/1300 the most, but the pin locations on the receiver are different. --Predator20 07:43, 15 April 2011 (CDT)

While the pin location matches Remington, the actual pins don't look like Remington's (I guess they could be swapped) The serial number style isn't Remington either. (I have two 870s, but no Winchesters or any others to compare them with.) It could be a foreign made shotgun. A lot of times they are kind of a mix of several American shotguns. I'll look at the older versions of the page and see if I can delete the pngs that way. --Predator20 16:38, 19 April 2011 (CDT)
No biggie man. Yeah some more screenshots would help narrow it down. It could be some sort of 870 copy. Post the images on the Feast talk page maybe someone figure it out. --Predator20 21:13, 16 June 2011 (CDT)

killer elite

Sorry about that. Just too cool to pass up. Glad they used the 92SB instead of 92F since it takes place in the early 1980's. --Ben41 22:03, 27 June 2011 (CDT)

Takers

I know the gun that Paul Walker uses in Takers. It is a Wilson Combat Professional Compact BTW:Iknow this because the Wilson Combat symbol is on the grips and the reverse two tone is not avalible for any other 1911 commander

Thanks. An image of the gun is on WA Gunnet 1911 Tactical series page 2 second gun.Get back to me when you find the image I will keep up the good work. MovieMaster out.

By the way you spelled Wilson wrong on the gun name. it is W-I-L-S-O-N.No offense.MovieMaster out.

Dude, relax. You said you didn't know, and I provided the info, that's all. I had this conversation with Evil Tim a few days ago, and my general gist is, we should put in what's correct, period. And besides, no one can truly say what a "Average Joe" know or not, it's all subjective. But if it's right, it's right. If you want to write it out, then go ahead, but if you want to abbreviate it, then we should do it correctly, that's all. --Funkychinaman 22:34, 12 July 2011 (CDT)

The Big Bang

Great work on the page! I just got through watching it. I didn't know about the film until I saw the trailer to it on another dvd I had rented. I'm pretty sure the 1911 Antonio uses is a Series 80, like in the opening credit sequence. Feel free to upload over it if you still have the film.--Predator20 18:31, 15 July 2011 (CDT)

I'm just trying to save you some time and effort. It's just better to know in the future, if you're going to do a major revamp on a major page like that (especially one that's already had Blu-ray caps on it), that you put a heads up on the discussion page.

Could you grab an additional screenshot of this with no muzzle flash? I want to get a good look at the front of the barrel. Thanks. Or if there's better shot showing the front of the barrel, that would be fine. --Predator20 17:49, 12 September 2011 (CDT)

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Thanks, that's perfect. Yes, MPM has access to four cut down models. The ones in The Punisher (2004), Red Dragon, Vampires don't have the barrel cut flush with the ribbing. So it would match the most and likely be the actual screen used gun. --Predator20 18:17, 12 September 2011 (CDT)

I'm aware that there are issues with slow updates, but according to the dimensions, you're going from 600x301 to 595x194. That's going from 2:1 to 3:1. --Funkychinaman 18:30, 14 September 2011 (CDT)

Warejaws, it doesn't update. I've watched one of these for over a day before, it seems that the server doesn't like image changes but it really doesn't like resolution changes. Evil Tim 19:14, 14 September 2011 (CDT)

Do you still have the film Thursday? There's a close up shot of the nickel 1911 used by Chris Plummer. Thomas Jane eyes on it the table just before Plummer's character gives him the first tape to play. Around 22:52 on my dvd counter. I'm pretty sure it's a Norinco 1911 judging by the rollmark style but it's kind of out of focus. It's rollmark position is similar to the original WWI 1911's (on the front of the frames dust cover) but the 1911 used in the film has the relief cuts on the frame making it an 1911A1. Thanks.--Predator20 22:30, 8 October 2011 (CDT)

An answer

Hi. I have played the PC version and is was flawless. This game is definitely not like Final Fantasy. There is not much RPG-stuff in it, you get XP for killing dudes and completing missions, you can select special abilities called "augmentations". It kinda reminds me of BioShock, although you have a really small inventory which makes the game even harder and more challenging. The game is 80% action (or stealth, depends on how you play) and 20% RPG, which involves buying/selling stuff, hacking door/computers, choosing new abilities and a little conversation with NPC's. DE:HR is definitely a masterpiece, it is the "Inception" of video games. Hope this helped. - bozitojugg3rn4ut 04:53, 11 October 2011 (CDT)

M62/M76

Are you sure about the modernised M62 being the most common one? At the time of me trying to ID the rifle I did a lot of searching, and that was the only rifle I could find (came from the Valmet message boards, where it was a mystery gun. Only markings on it were "Sako".). I have however found a scan from a Sako brochure that is a milled receiver M76, could it be this instead? --commando552 15:08, 9 November 2011 (CST)

Do you have any idea what is up with the sights of the Valmet M62 that is listed on the Ultimate Force - Season 1 page? --commando552 04:26, 12 December 2011 (CST)

Renny Harlin

For film directors, the general format is to make a "category" for the person, and add [[Category:Renny Harlin]] for each of the director's films that are represented on the site. Please take a look at the John Landis page for reference. The Renny Harlin page will be moved into the category page and please add the formatting to the other film pages. Thanks. --Ben41 03:30, 3 January 2012 (CST)

The simplest way is to add [[Category:Renny Harlin]] to one of the director's movie pages at the bottom. Then you would click on the red link and do the same formatting you originally did. You can see that it's already done for the director. --Ben41 03:38, 3 January 2012 (CST)

Update

Are you still working on Hellsinki? --Funkychinaman 11:38, 27 August 2012 (CDT)

No worries. I was just concerned because I wasn't sure about it's availability outside of Finland, which certainly would limit the number of users who'd be able to finish the page. Thanks. --Funkychinaman 08:30, 28 August 2012 (CDT)

Street Kings

First, thanks for the HD pics for Street Kings. In the future, please make sure that the new screenshots are not completely different than the ones you are overwriting. If you would like to add a new angle, please upload as a new screenshot and add to the page. A lot of times, the captions don't make sense if a different screenshot is added. --Ben41 22:21, 26 August 2012 (CDT)

Re: In need of opinion

Hi. Unfortunately I cannot help you with this. The only Hitman game I have played was Silent Assassin. I am more like a Splinter Cell fan. A friend of mine told me that Absolution is utterly shit so I didn't even bother to try it. Tho, it has some interesting weapons, gotta admit that. - bozitojugg3rn4ut (talk) 14:38, 27 January 2013 (EST)

Headings

For headings on actor pages, we're going with level 2 as the standard. (You can see the discussion here, and here in the IMFDB Style Guide. If you have an issue with that, let us know.) As for templates, we're just trying to keep things uniform. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:37, 9 March 2013 (EST)

Thanks. It was ambiguous for a while, but we finally decided to nail it down. --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:43, 9 March 2013 (EST)

Why are you uploading over Ben's shots? They appear to be larger and of higher resolution. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:58, 10 March 2013 (EDT)

Ah, I totally agree with trailer caps. I thought Ben had finished the page, and the caps were from the Blu-Ray. Sorry about that. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:27, 10 March 2013 (EDT)

The Red Dawn disambiguation page makes sense, but keep in mind that all the actors and weapon pages link to simply "Red Dawn" and not "Red Dawn (1984)." They'll all have to be fixed. --Funkychinaman (talk) 09:50, 12 March 2013 (EDT)

You don't seem to like templates. Is there a particular reason why? --Funkychinaman (talk) 10:51, 13 March 2013 (EDT)

Red Dawn edit

You do realize that there's a 10 picture limit per weapon? And you don't need to be sarcastic about my edits. You've got too long of descriptions and way too many comas.--Mandolin (talk) 09:33, 14 March 2013 (EDT)

Sorry, meant comma with two m's. And I figured I'd let you cut some of the screenshots. Wasn't sure what to cut.--Mandolin (talk) 17:20, 14 March 2013 (EDT)

Johan Falk: GSI - Gruppen för särskilda insatser

I deleted the page for Johan Falk: GSI - Gruppen för särskilda insatser because there's nothing there. I know you're reliable and have no doubt you would've eventually finished it, but it was a little too much. I saved the code on the talk page for when you decide to pick it up. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:23, 25 March 2013 (EDT)

Screenshots

There's a few ways; I assume you're only talking about PC games, so I'll skip talking about capture cards.

The first and easiest way is Steam. Steam's UI has a built-in screenshot function (F12) that takes thoroughly acceptable JPEG images. While it varies as to whether it works, sometimes adding a non-Steam game to Steam will allow you to use the screencapping function too, though I've never had much luck with that route. You're best finding those using the "screenshots" button in the Steam Library since their file paths consist of uninformative strings of random numbers.

FRAPS you need to pay for (otherwise it watermarks everything, IIRC) and your friend is partially right; if you set FRAPS to take JPEG screenshots it gives you crap quality images full of artifacts. You have to set it to take screenshots in bitmap format (3+ megs per shot!) and then manually convert them to JPEG yourself.

A lot of other programs aren't able to take shots of game windows, so FRAPS is your best bet.

Actually getting the shots, I have a mouse with a silly number of buttons and one of them is set to F12, so I can take shots as I play. Makes for better action shots. Evil Tim (talk) 09:13, 9 May 2013 (EDT)

Rockethub

Hey. Yes, shipping is included. If you are looking at getting multiple items which will need to be shipped over seas, we can work with you so you don't have to pay individual shipping on each item. Send me an e-mail at support@imfdb.org with your address and the items you would like to get and I will figure out what we can do to bring the shipping price down. Thanks for the support! --Zackmann08 IMFDB Chief of Operations (talk) 16:51, 13 May 2013 (EDT)

HIMYM

No one has discussed it, but I can't think of any reason why it WOULDN'T be eligible. My only personal stipulation is that you cover the entire series and keep up with it, which is currently at 184 episodes and counting. There's only one season left, so it shouldn't be that hard. --Funkychinaman (talk) 22:33, 3 June 2013 (EDT)

I have completed only about 3 missions. That Jadid guy who had the P226 in the trailer had no weapon so I thought I remove it from the page. --bozitojugg3rn4ut (talk) 17:39, 24 August 2013 (EDT)

Found the P226 in the last mission at last! Thanks again for pointing it out. Never would have noticed it myself. - bozitojugg3rn4ut (talk) 15:49, 13 September 2013 (EDT)

Thumbnails size

I know the rules. My own experience (more than 1000 created actor pages) tells me that 400 px is the best size while 500 px images are too large and leave less space for tables. But I'm ready to stop such edits if you have objections, and I do apologize for them if I'm wrong. So I started a discussion here. Greg-Z (talk) 15:13, 22 September 2013 (EDT)

I agree with Greg-Z and would prefer to keep the actor pages pictures to 400px because of the above reasons. You don't have to change the ones you've already done, but keep this in mind for the future. --Ben41 (talk) 15:36, 22 September 2013 (EDT)
I'm not offended at all. I think that I really was too hasty with these edits, judging only through my own experience. Greg-Z (talk) 15:49, 22 September 2013 (EDT)

Hellsinki

I was hoping you'd be able to finish this, since I don't think this film is available in the US. As far as I know, you're the only regular user from Finland. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:34, 3 October 2013 (EDT)

If you've already watched it and capped it, it should only take about an hour to put together. --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:51, 4 October 2013 (EDT)
Are you still working on The Watch? --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:15, 5 October 2013 (EDT)
That one isn't as pressing, since it's an American film that came out last year. I also hate it when new users come in, create a half-assed page, and then we go in and finish it for them, so if you don't want to do it, it's fine by me. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:40, 6 October 2013 (EDT)
Thanks. --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:44, 8 October 2013 (EDT)

Walking Dead Season 4

Many thanks for your HD screenshots for The Walking Dead - Season 4. In the future, remember to change the filenames to reflect the episode and season the screenshot is from, ex. Season 4 Episode 1 from the Walking Dead would start with TWDS4E01. This helps to avoid confusion on what episode a screengrab is from. Thanks. --Ben41 (talk)

Walking Dead Screenshots

You've been doing a great job with the Walking Dead! Excellent screenshots with great quality! I usually leave the zero off the season number to save space (since series rarely go to double digits). --Ben41 (talk) 15:50, 2 December 2013 (EST)

Screenshot sharpening

I usually will sharpen my images in VLC player (go into the Tools column and to the Video Effects). I only sharpen a little bit so it's not super grainy. Your Walking Dead screenshots look pretty good still though. --Ben41 (talk) 15:10, 3 December 2013 (EST)

Hamilton

I just created a category for the actors who played Carl Hamilton and added this to the two existing actor pages. Look forward to see your uploads of the two latest Hamilton movies. By the way, did you notice he's made a good promotion; Commander Hamilton in the first two movies and in 2012 he's 'just' an Agent! Take care, PeeWee055 (talk) 12:19, 15 December 2013 (EST)

Instead of making a category for Hamilton actors, take a look at the "See Also" table for the Superman, Bourne, or Bond series. That's probably to best way to categorize the different actors who played the character. --Ben41 (talk) 22:10, 15 December 2013 (EST)
