Gotti is a 1996 biopic of American mafioso John Gotti directed by Robert Harmon (The Hitcher , the Jesse Stone series) for HBO starring Armand Assante in the title role, with William Forsythe , Richard C. Sarafian, Frank Vincent and Anthony Quinn . The film was the highest rated original film for HBO when it first aired, and its success lead to The Sopranos being greenlit, which also featured costars Tony Sirico , Vincent Pastore and Dominic Chianese.
