Hennessy
Hennessy is a 1975 British thriller directed by Don Sharp and starring Rod Steiger, Trevor Howard, Lee Remick, Richard Johnson, Peter Egan, Stanley Lebor, and with a brief appearance by a young Patrick Stewart. In the film Niall Hennessy (Steiger), a World War II hero and now demolitions expert, has rejected the violence of the IRA. But when Niall's family is killed by stray rounds during a riot, he sets out to bomb the British Parliament.
The following guns were used in the film Hennessy:
Handguns
Smith & Wesson 36
Colt revolvers???
Other than the S&W 36, the majority of revolvers carried by both IRA members and the Police appear to be Colt models, both short and long barrel, but many are difficult to identify at the angles seen.
Submachine Guns
Sterling
The radioman in the initial riot scene carries a Sterling sub-gun, which plays an integral role in the plot. The film however shows an improbably long burst of fire from the Sterling, 12 seconds with only one brief pause in the string. In actuality a Sterling firing at 550rpm would burn 9 rounds per second, exhausting the standard 34-round magazine in about four seconds.
Rifles
L1A1 SLR
The majority of British troops in the the patrols in the opening credits, and in the initial riot scene carry the SLR.
M1 Carbine
The IRA members in the execution squad in the flashback scenes to Belfast appear to be carrying M1 Carbines.
AR-15
Both IRA snipers shown in the film appear to be carrying the same scoped AR-15. Unusually, the AR shown in the riot scene appears to be a takedown model.
Bolt-action rifle
Two British police snipers on overwatch during the opening of Parliament are carrying identical scoped bolt-action rifles
Machine Guns
Browning M1919
The Ferret armored cars on patrol in Belfast during the opening credits have machine guns in the turrets, which appear to be the Browning M1919 based on the barrel shroud and standard Ferret armament (and not the later GPMG).
Other
Petrol bomb
In the riot scene, as the boys thrown stones at the British troops, an older Catholic youth prepares a Molotov cocktail, prompting the officer to shout "petrol bomb up! Rubber bullets!"
FedLabs 1.5" riot gas gun
The 1.5" FedLabs gas gun is shown prominently in the initial riot scene, where a British soldier fires a load of rubber bullets to stop a youth from throwing a Molotov cocktail.
Tear gas grenades
British soldiers in the riot scene gas the stone-throwing youths.
Gelignite vest
As a building demolition expert in Belfast, Hennessy is familiar with explosives, and acquires a suicide vest rigged with sticks of industrial quarrying gelignite.
