Training Day (2001)
The following weapons were used in the film Training Day:
Beretta 92FS
Officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) carries the LAPD standard-issue Beretta 92FS in 9x19mm throughout the film. Much like Jake himself, the Beretta 92 has a history of reliability, accuracy and ruggedness. For a "by the books" man like Jake, the Beretta 92FS is a great choice.
The Beretta 92FS also appears in the hands of several other characters throughout the film, including uniformed LAPD officers and some of the Crips who shoot at Alonzo and Jake in Watts.
Smith & Wesson 4506
Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) carries two Smith & Wesson 4506 pistols in .45 ACP throughout the movie. .45 ACP handguns were approved for LAPD carry after the infamous North Hollywood shootout. In one scene of the film, where Alonzo and Jake come under fire from a gang of Crips while serving a warrant in the Imperial Courts neighborhood of Watts, he fires both weapons simultaneously, holding one sideways, "gangsta"-style.
Beretta 92FS Inox
The stainless Inox version of the Beretta 92FS appears several times in the film. Tim (Nick Chinlund), one of the men in Alonzo's unit, is seen using one during the raid on Roger's (Scott Glenn's) house. Smiley (Cliff Curtis) also carries one, which he shows off to Jake in a not-so-subtle attempt at intimidation.
Glock 17
Mark (Jaime Gomez), one of the men in Alonzo's unit, carries a Glock 17. When Jake is disarming Alonzo, Alonzo hands over a Glock 17 with a stainless slide. Some of the Crip gangbangers in the shootout in Watts also carry them.
Glock 19
The smaller Glock 19 also appears several times in the movie. When Alonzo and Jake arrest the wheelchair-bound drug dealer Blue (Snoop Dogg), they confiscate a Glock 19 from him. Paul (Dr. Dre), one of the men in Alonzo's unit, also carries a Glock 19 which he uses to threaten Jake during the standoff in Roger's house. Finally, some of the Crips in Watts are also seen with them.
SIG-Sauer P226
A SIG-Sauer P226 is carried by Jeff (Peter Greene), one of Alonzo's men. It is only seen very briefly in the film, when Jeff peeks into one of the windows of Roger's house during the raid.
Mossberg 500 "Cruiser"
A Mossberg 500 "Cruiser" shotgun is used by Jake during the raid on Roger's house. Later, Alonzo asks Jake to shoot Roger with this weapon, and when Jake refuses, Alonzo takes the Mossberg and kills Roger himself. Based on the lack of a heat shield, it could also just be a Mossberg 500 with added pistol grips and an 18" barrel. Or the heat shield could have simply been removed (but without a viable cause, this seems less likely).
- Actually, the reason the Mossberg seen in the movie has no shield is it is a 500 Just-In-Case series weapon. They come standard with no heat shield, a pistol grip, and an 18-inch barrel. However, it does seem strange that a tactical department would procure one of these instead of one with a heat shield.
H&K MP5A3
Paul (Dr. Dre) uses a Heckler & Koch MP5A3 submachine gun (with Navy trigger group) during the raid on Roger's house. It seems to be attached to his ballistic vest with some kind of lanyard.
Stoeger Uplander
Smiley and his homies, Shooter (Raymond Cruz) and Moreno (Noel Gugliemi), hold Jake captive with a sawed-off Stoeger Uplander which has black electrical tape wrapped around the grip.
Remington 870
When Jake confronts Alonzo in his home and disarms him of all his pistols, Alonzo distracts Jake and then reaches under his bed for a sawed-off Remington 870 with a heat shield (possibley stolen from Cruiser?). Earlier in the film, when Alonzo and Jake drive past the scene of a major drug bust, an LAPD officer can be seen holding a standard Remington 870 model on several Latino gangbangers.
Colt M1911
After Jake jumps onto the hood of his car when he's trying to drive off with the money, Alonzo fires at Jake with a Colt M1911-type pistol (specific make unknown). Jake later retrieves this pistol and uses it to wound Alonzo.
Taurus Instant Backup
Bone (Cle Shaheed Sloan) carries a snub-nose Taurus Instant Backup revolver, which appears to be very old and beat-up (its grip is wrapped with electrical tape). He puts it on the pavement for Alonzo to use against Jake, and then later holds the weapon on Alonzo so that Jake can leave. It is most likely a .38 Special.
This gun is clearly of Smith and Wesson make and not that of Taurus. The stamping on the side of the barrel and it's aesthetics prove this. It's much more likely a S&W Model 19 with Nickel plating and a rounded butt.
- I'd check again, it says "Taurus-Brasil" on the barrel, the older style markings, and it has that curved indent in the cylinder release, which a Taurus feattures over a S&W.
- I'm not positive it's the Instant Backup (someone else told me so), but yes, it's most definitely a Taurus; I noticed the markings that you have pointed out when I watched the movie on my HDTV.
- I'd say it is likely an older model of an Instant Backup, similair to how the Taurus 605 in Batman Begins is an older model.
AKS-74U
The Russian mafia hit squad at the end of the film all carry AKS-74Us, which are used to gun down Alonzo when he fails to pay the debt he owes to them.
