Smith & Wesson Model 29

The script called for Detective Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) to use a Smith & Wesson Model 29, chambered in .44 Magnum throughout the film. Actually, the revolver used was the Model 57 in .41 Magnum. There is no unanimity regarding this point. According to other sources, the revolver was indeed a model 29 Other sources also says that the Model 29 was fitted with a .45 Long Colt drum from the Smith& Wesson Model 25-7. The reason was that the 5-in-1 blanks from the old hollywood western movies could be used. If chambered with a live round, this would be fatal to the shooter.
