Berthier Mle 1907-16

Arabs and French soldiers are armed with Berthier Mle 1907-16 rifles, which did not enter service until five years after the events of the film. A better choice would be the Modèle 1892 Artillery Carbine or M1902 Colonial rifle.

An abandoned Berthier lies at the edge of the shell hole. In this WWI sequence, these rifles are not anachronistic.

Spanish Mauser M43

Some of the Arabian fighters are also seen with anachronistic M43 Spanish Mausers standing in for period-correct German or Turkish models.
