Rubén Blades Bellido de Luna (born July 16, 1948), known professionally as Rubén Blades, is a Panamanian singer, composer, politician, activist and actor. He holds a degree in law from The University of Panama and a Master of Laws from Harvard University. In 1994 he ran for the office of President of Panama. He received 17% of the popular vote. From 2004 - 2009 he served as the Minister of Tourism after being appointed by the President of Panama Martín Torrijos. He has won eleven Grammy Awards and eleven Latin Grammy Awards.
