Here's to a New Year and a New Decade! --Ben41 (talk) 12:06, 31 December 2019 (EST)

Welcome to the '20s! ;D StanTheMan (talk) 13:00, 31 December 2019 (EST)
Still 2019 where I live, but hey, screw it. Here's to a bygone decade, and a roaring 2020s for us all. Pyr0m4n14c (talk) 15:15, 31 December 2019 (EST)

2020 is turning into a very strange year.--Jcordell (talk) 00:09, 5 April 2020 (EDT)

2020 has been the strangest three years so far. StanTheMan (talk) 17:18, 5 April 2020 (EDT)
So, how many of us are now using the site again while we’re stuck at home quarantining? -MT2008 (talk) 19:01, 5 April 2020 (EDT)
I've been wondering the same thing. --Jcordell (talk) 21:01, 5 April 2020 (EDT)
If we had been stuck at home in 2015, I'd be cranking out pages. But not so now with a toddler and a baby at home. --Funkychinaman (talk) 22:05, 5 April 2020 (EDT)
Ironically enough, I feel like I've been less active here since the shutdown. Probably since I've finally abandoned any attempts to maintain a somewhat healthy sleep schedule. Pyr0m4n14c (talk) 23:35, 5 April 2020 (EDT)

A lot of guns... A many lot of guns.

Well, does anyone dare to identify this? As I understand it, almost all of this is target guns (probably as the only available source of a large number of western handguns). --Slon95 (talk) 15:30, 1 January 2020 (EST)

From left to right: ?, Ruger Blackhawk, Smith & Wesson Model 29, Smith & Wesson Model 25, ?, ?. --Pyramid Silent (talk)
On that first screencap.. I agree on the Blackhawk ID. The center two revolvers are stainless S&Ws. That said, I believe the center one is a smaller K-frame gun - likely a long-barrel (8 3/8") Model 66, while the one next to it is a larger N-frame - likely a Model 629. Next to it looks like a Model 29 with 8 3/8 barrel. Can't quite make out the revolvers at the top or the far left.
The second screencap, only one I can make out is the stainless one, which looks to be a full-lug Smith & Wesson Model 686 (though it looks to be lacking both sights for some reason.. I suppose it could be the fixed-sight Model 681).
Fourth screencap the one laying on the counter on the right is a S&W Model 586. Fifth screencap shows a couple of 3rd Gen S&W automatics. All-in-all looks like on giant S&W ad to me, lolz (not that there's anything wrong with that). StanTheMan (talk) 21:11, 1 January 2020 (EST)

Rules on video game emulation?

I was wondering if there are any rules against screencaps from emulators like Dolphin or PCSX2, as I can't find anywhere on the site that addresses this. Specifically, I wanted to get higher quality pictures for the TimeSplitters pages once my new PC is up and running.--Tomakazi (talk) 20:26, 19 February 2020 (EST)

I believe emulators are legal as long as you have the original game. We'll have to take your word for it. --Funkychinaman (talk) 21:33, 19 February 2020 (EST)

Mysterious Revolver

This is very similar to the 1st gen Colt DS, but has a high rear sight, and a cylinder swing-out to the right side (although this is - perhaps - a consequence of the mirroring of the scene). Does anyone have any idea what this might be? --Slon95 (talk) 11:34, 29 February 2020 (EST)

After a lot of googling for right-swinging cylinder I found this obscure gun: Clerke First starter revolver. It has raised rear sight, but other features seem different, so this version is hardly correct. --Greg-Z (talk) 13:35, 29 February 2020 (EST)
Not even close. This is closest to this: [1], [2], although this sample has an exposed hammer. --Slon95 (talk) 14:28, 29 February 2020 (EST)

Lupin III / Lupin the Third / Lupin the 3rd Template

I was just wondering if this 'series' qualified for a template? There's a lot missing from IMFDB on it (I've been trying to source good DVD copies of the individual TV parts to get screencaps), and I'm planning to tackle the 1995 movie Lupin III: Farewell to Nostradamus next, but it looks like there's already five titles here. I think even if it doesn't qualify for a template, a disambiguation would be perfectly alright.

Oh, and also, should we universalize which form of 'Lupin III' we're going with? Currently we have pages with "Lupin III", "Lupin the Third", and "Lupin the 3rd"! (if we do, my vote is for "Lupin III") - SeptemberJack (talk) 04:30, 31 March 2020 (EDT)

Anyone know this?=

This one looks like a S&W 642. Ominae (talk) 11:46, 1 April 2020 (EDT)

Looks like a 296 to me. --commando552 (talk) 18:54, 1 April 2020 (EDT)

Small question regarding screenshots for video game pages

Case Closed page (maybe split up slowly)

Noticing that the page is getting longer and longer especially with the next episode is by May 23. I'd help, but I have a laptop right now and I'm not sure if the show has Blu-Ray versions or Hi-res versions for the first 15 seasons. Ominae (talk) 10:30, 3 May 2020 (EDT)

Shotguns list classified by the Latvian Police

Well, as I always climbed the Internet and found this: [3]. This is an extremely unique document, full of characteristics that are nowhere is easy to find. The text is in Latvian, but it's easy to translate through CTRL+C and a translator. --Slon95 (talk) 11:39, 13 May 2020 (EDT)

It claims the SPG-9 is originally Polish, is that correct? --AgentGumby (talk) 14:17, 13 May 2020 (EDT)
Very interesting document. Actually classify launchers too, so maybe a list of no-rifled weapons? Wonder what the misterious P38 is...

Sandboxes

Is it okay to edit another person's sandbox? I ask in part because I've noticed some cross-editing of sandbox pages before (namely the Modern Warfare Online sandbox page) and because somebody started a sandbox page for Girls' Frontline (which they haven't done anything with in a while) that I'd like to contribute to. BrandonColeford1992 (talk) 01:11, 12 June 2020 (EDT)

I'd check with the owner first. If it's truly abandoned, then I'd say go ahead. --Funkychinaman (talk) 01:40, 12 June 2020 (EDT)
Well, it’s been 3 days since I asked, and about 3 months since he used the site. I’m gonna say that that’s an all-clear. Worst-case scenario, he reverts the page to its former state. BrandonColeford1992 (talk) 22:58, 15 June 2020 (EDT)

About mobile games

Are mobile games allowed in here if they are notable enough? Garena Free Fire for instance is a famous mobile game published by a legitimate company, could I perhaps create a page for it? --Dan San (talk) 20:31, 30 June 2020 (EDT)

Mobile apps are not allowed. --Funkychinaman (talk) 00:41, 1 July 2020 (EDT)
Well, at least not on main pages; if you want, you can create a personal sandbox for the game. Pyr0m4n14c (talk) 08:06, 1 July 2020 (EDT)
Thanks for answering, I just wanted to be sure. --Dan San (talk) 10:37, 1 July 2020 (EDT)

ID this pistol (SIG?)

I think it's from the SIG-Sauer P220 series but I don't know what exact model it is. --Dan San (talk) 15:57, 2 July 2020 (EDT)

S&W? --Slon95 (talk) 18:26, 2 July 2020 (EDT)
I don't think so. The shape of the trigger guard and grip don't match. I'm guessing it's either a P220 or a P226 but it's hard to tell without knowing the capacity. --Dan San (talk) 18:45, 2 July 2020 (EDT)
Looks like a total mix. The rear of the slide, the grip, and the double stack step on the frame all look vaguely P226ish, but then the front of the slide and frame is totally flat a featureless like a S&W Sigma. Then you have the fact that the slide stop appears to be from a Browning Hi-Power. --commando552 (talk) 19:34, 2 July 2020 (EDT)
I think the featurelessness is just from the quality of the model and textures. Since you said it's a double stack then I'll list it as a P226. I appreciate the help. --Dan San (talk) 20:44, 2 July 2020 (EDT)

Discord

Would you folks be interested in an official IMFDB Discord server? I think it could be interesting, but I'm not sure if it would be redundant with the presence of the forum, so I'd like to get everybody's opinion on the matter first. Pyr0m4n14c (talk) 21:08, 6 July 2020 (EDT)

I think it'd be cool. Discord is a lot more modern than the traditional forum and I think it'd be fun to have a place to shoot the shit about guns, movies, and games or whatever with fellow enthusiasts.
Interesting idea indeed. Discord is more engaging and modern. But then again, we already have the forums and talk pages for discussion. I support this idea but I'll wait until more users show interest. --Dan San (talk) 21:26, 6 July 2020 (EDT)
Never actually used Discord before, but I'd be down for it too.--AgentGumby (talk) 10:58, 10 July 2020 (EDT)
If you guys want access to the forum, please do so on the Forum Request page. I'm pretty quick processing the requests. --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:16, 10 July 2020 (EDT)

Just One Quetion...

I would just like to ask - is it possible to add games where weapons are not used directly by the player, but have a noticeable role, and are directly real-life models? --Slon95 (talk) 16:56, 17 July 2020 (EDT)

Which game did you have in mind? --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:37, 17 July 2020 (EDT)
Well, I was thinking about Hard Truck 2. It is really very well done, especially for its age, and considering that it is from Russia (a reputation for games that is usually laughed at, including from the inside). Although the weapon is not used directly by the player, this is evident in a number of cutscenes. In addition, the police KA-50s are visible carrying their Shipunov 2A42 autocannons, which they will not hesitate to use if something happens (if the player reaches the appropriate wanted level). Not like all these subsequent over9000 games "about trucks", which, by the way, actually "parasitize" on what was created by this game (the same "18 wheels of steel" or "euro truck simulator"), while, oddly enough, actually they being below this for the quality of the gameplay. --Slon95 (talk) 17:51, 17 July 2020 (EDT)
I'd say go for it. If the guns present are real and visible enough then it should be eligible for a page. --Dan San (talk) 17:54, 19 July 2020 (EDT)

Snowpiercer (2020 TV series) gun identification thread

So there's this new TV show (also available on Netflix) based on the novel and film of the same name, and I'd like to ID all of the guns before uploading screenshots or creating a page.
Here's an Imgur link with all screenshots I took: https://imgur.com/a/ad2MBm4
I gotta say, the gunplay on the show is atrocious. Firearms are far and few between in the story and they're rarely given much screen time, but they do occasionally play very significant roles. I'm struggling to identify these guns so I'd like some help here. --Dan San (talk) 18:09, 19 July 2020 (EDT)

Will it really be as bad as the series from The Mist? --Slon95 (talk) 18:40, 19 July 2020 (EDT)
I'm enjoying it so far. It is a very political show but the politics are pretty easy to ignore most of the time. --Dan San (talk) 21:40, 19 July 2020 (EDT)

Any objections to this?

I know there are rules on this site about pages for non-descript guns featured in cartoons. However, would anyone object to me covering the Army Men games? Their weapons are simplistic but do indeed resemble actual weapons, most notably the M16, M9A1 Bazooka, and M2 Flamethrower (featured on the cover of Army Men 3D). The games also have numerous vehicles with mounted weapons such as Browning M2 machine guns. Theakker3 (talk) 15:58, 22 July 2020 (EDT)

I'm leaning towards no, because "resemble" is a slippery slope. There's a just a lot of other eligible titles out there. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:03, 22 July 2020 (EDT)
I made a quick search for actual gameplay screenshots. These or this show too small and generic images of weapons. --Greg-Z (talk) 16:18, 22 July 2020 (EDT)
I vote no. --Jcordell (talk) 00:04, 23 July 2020 (EDT)
I mean, my page for Superhot was allowed even though the guns are textureless, and some only bear slight resemblance to actual guns (but most of them are real). You should get a good screenshot of the guns in-game and not just cover art, though. --Dan San (talk) 16:53, 23 July 2020 (EDT)
Superhot was on the fence for me, and even then it still has far more detail than this. --Funkychinaman (talk) 02:15, 28 July 2020 (EDT)
The one I am interested in doing first is Army Men 3D, which probably has the least featured weapons in the Army Men franchise. But there is still a lot to cover in terms of weaponry. I can get better screen shots than this if I have to, and this isn't nearly every weapon in the game. Theakker3 (talk) 02:01, 28 July 2020 (EDT)

I was able to get this page up, but I'm not sure on the revolver used. It's not a Nambu (likely) based on the iron sight on the barrel. Ominae (talk) 10:42, 19 August 2020 (EDT)

We Happy Few

Sorry to bother, but I would like to know if the video game We Happy Few is eligible for a page. It's not a shooter game, but it does feature a few actual firearms/weapons. Here are some images:

A Lee-Enfield rifle with a bayonet. The rifle is never actually fired, but it is a very common sight in the game and its model is in great detail.

Heavily modified Lee-Enfield rifles turned into electrical weapons, "Battle Prods".

A tear gas grenade apparently based on the Model 7290 flashbang grenade.

The cannon of a German WWII-era tank (though I don't know what model the cannon or the tank are).

A statue of a Napoleonic-era cannon. A plaque beneath it says it is a "Blomfield 9-pounder", but I'm not sure if that is accurate.

A bundle of plastic explosives (I don't think they count but I added anyway for the sake of completeness).
I will leave the final decision to the admins. Moreover, I would like to apologize for my behavior seen on threads above (and probably elsewhere on the site). I'm just an inexperienced new user, not admin, and the way I gave my "permission" for creating pages was deeply presumptuous, stupid and cringeworthy of me since I didn't really had a say on the matter. Anyway, thanks in advance. --Dan San (talk) 20:33, 23 August 2020 (EDT)

Certainly seems worthwhile, though I'm not an authority on the matter. If nothing else, I'm curious as to how the Hell the "Battle Prod" is supposed to work without electrocuting anybody that thinks about it too hard. Pyr0m4n14c (talk) 22:21, 23 August 2020 (EDT)
Some weapons in the game are indeed very peculiar. Except when they are just a stone taped to a stick, for example. --Dan San (talk) 09:45, 24 August 2020 (EDT)
The tank looks like a Tiger II with a 8.8cm Pak 43, although tanks and tank cannons aren't really listed typically except for trivia purposes. Unless there are more firearm models (I'd assume a Webley would be in this game somewhere) there probably aren't enough entries to make the cut. You can always start a talk page for the game, too.--AgentGumby (talk) 09:55, 24 August 2020 (EDT)
Sadly there are no Webley revolvers to be seen in the game. I don't think there are any other firearms other than those I've listed. I'm about to finish the game again, I'll give another look around and see if I can find anything else. --Dan San (talk) 11:52, 24 August 2020 (EDT)

Yeah. I just double-checked. There really aren't other firearms in the game. But the few that are featured are quite prominent. The Lee-Enfield alone appears as an usable weapon, in the hands of many soldiers and in monuments. And there are also many other pages in IMFDB that list only one or two guns. Again, I'll leave the final say to the admins... --Dan San (talk) 00:07, 30 August 2020 (EDT)

Shotgun Pistol

Should there be a separate category for this? People (logically) think of them as pistols, but technically they're still shotguns. We are talking about such guns as Howdah, which are for shooting with buckshot, and not just smooth-bore (flintlock, etc.) --Slon95 (talk) 07:43, 4 September 2020 (EDT)

Is there anything other than the Howdah? --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:05, 4 September 2020 (EDT)
Calling Howdah a shotgun pistol hardly would be correct, as this gun was used for shooting bullets or slugs in case of smoothbores, not buckshot. --Greg-Z (talk) 11:47, 4 September 2020 (EDT)

Unknown Swivel Gun

Does anyone know what this German swivel gun is? (Theakker3 (talk) 11:39, 5 October 2020 (EDT))

Need help with Identification some guns

All guns in the Alita: Battle Angel movie had appears rather futuristic, but, maybe it's a real firearms, dressed as future weapons, as it often present in the science-fiction medias, like Star Wars series. However, I couldn't found any information about it. So, I had upload this screenshots to the talk page. If anyone can prove or disprove my guess, this talk page will be moved to main page or deleted. Pyramid Silent (talk) 10:38, 30 November 2020 (EST)

Talk:Alita: Battle Angel

They look like completely fictional designs, I don't see much resemblance to real firearms in any of them. I'd assume most of those are also CGI, other than maybe Mahershala Ali's prop.--AgentGumby (talk) 12:44, 30 November 2020 (EST)
OK. I had marked this page for deletion. Pyramid Silent (talk) 05:41, 1 December 2020 (EST)

Tr0ll

I think this dude, TheDetonator98, bot or something like that. The average person can't help but know, heck, what is the difference between a pump-action and a semi-auto, with such mania. --Slon95 (talk) 14:37, 4 December 2020 (EST)

Disagreeing with what a gun ID is - even to the point of getting into an edit war about it - doesn't mean one lacks for firearms knowledge. That said, maybe debate it on the relevant talk page and/or take it up with an admin directly rather than air this kinda thing out here. StanTheMan (talk) 21:54, 4 December 2020 (EST)

PNGs

In my personal experience, a lot of devices and software nowadays tend to save images by default as .PNG, and lack the customizability to choose a particular format for images. I assume the jpg restriction is for compression reasons, but I've found that having convert my saved files into another format feels like an unnecessary added step.--AgentGumby (talk) 12:03, 17 December 2020 (EST)

Yeah, the main reason is file size - if we had a big page (say, Payday 2) filled top to bottom with PNGs, it would take about 18 years for people with slow internet to load the damn thing. I mean, even with JPGs, some pages have still gotten big enough to start to be a problem - hell, I'm responsible for one.
In short, while it'd be nice to be able to use PNGs, it just isn't something we can reasonably do. Pyr0m4n14c (talk) 13:33, 17 December 2020 (EST)
We have instructions on how to batch convert PNGs to JPEGs, to keep it as painless as possible. --Funkychinaman (talk) 08:55, 18 December 2020 (EST)
Yeah, I do understand and I also try to seek a good balance between detail and conciseness with my work. What I guess I wish I could do is just occasionally be able to upload a .PNG as a standalone screencap (like the Black ops weapon variant I posted yesterday). And I have used an online batch converter, I will have to try out the downloadable freeware linked in the guide.--AgentGumby (talk) 16:02, 18 December 2020 (EST)

The Midnight Sky

I was wanting to look up what kind of rifle Clooney (Augustine Lofthouse) is carrying in the Netflix movie, "The Midnight Sky". It looks like a modified Marlin 1895sbl 45-70 but with a really nice, hollowed out, futuristic furniture and some kind of squared-off compensator/suppressor. When I went to look it up, I didn't find it here but was instead presented with an option to create the page. After reading the rules, I am unsure whether to create it because, though it is an interesting gun and I immediately thought to myself, "What kind of gun is that?", it is the only gun in the movie and I don't want to run afoul of the "more than one gun" rule.

For what it's worth, people are asking on Reddit what kind of rifle it is: https://www.reddit.com/r/LeverAction/comments/kj2555

--Radwarrior (talk) 08:44, 30 December 2020 (MST)

I would agree that is is a marlin 1895SBL. As for the furniture, I imagine they are custom 3D printed parts as additive manufacture is kind of the only good way to make something like that. As far as I am concerned this movie would qualify for having a page, as although it only has a single firearm it would meet the criteria as it is important to the film and used by a main character. --commando552 (talk) 10:56, 30 December 2020 (EST)
