Belle Époque is a 1992 Spanish multi-award winning comedy directed by Fernando Trueba. Spain in the spring of 1931: The country is caught in a civil war between the monarchy and the republic. But this does not bother the young deserter Fernando much. He finds shelter in the house of the painter and free thinker Manolo, who lives in seclusion, disenchanted with the world. Manolo's hospitality is put to the test when, with the heat of summer, Manolo's extremely charming daughters arrive from Madrid for their annual summer stay. The worried father suspects bad things and wants to get rid of his guest quite quickly. But in vain: Fernando succumbs to the charms of the attractive sisters and a lustful game of seduction takes its course, in which, however, he does not determine the rules.
