Ballistic vest choice

When I saw the vest pictured in the Jericho and Winchester 1300 I thought they were a bizarre choice. Then I read the text saying that it was set in the 80s which pleasantly surprised me, as the vest is correct for that period being the (then) current British army body armour, the Mk. 2 "INIBA" (Improved Northern Ireland Body Armour) vest. Just curious, when they are testing the vests are they depicted as being generally "bullet proof", or just the plates? If the soft armour stops the shot, then this is incorrect as the soft armour is pretty much only "frag proof". --commando552 (talk) 17:04, 4 August 2013 (EDT)

No, they didn't stick to the plates. Frankie was shot point blank with the Jericho, and the welt was on this right pectoral. Charlie shot Sammy with the shotgun, shooting from the hip. I didn't get to the commentary, but the director was VERY insistent on making sure the clothes were period specific. --Funkychinaman (talk) 18:26, 4 August 2013 (EDT)
They did a good gob with the period specific aspect, not so much with the fact that the Jericho would have probably shot straight through it. At least they were bruised though, its more than most films/TV go for. --commando552 (talk) 18:57, 4 August 2013 (EDT)
I took a few caps of just the vests for you. It actually appears that there was a goof, since Sammy shoots Frankie squarely in the chest plate, but the welt is off to the right. --Funkychinaman (talk) 01:50, 5 August 2013 (EDT)

Sammy fires on the vest alone at first. Note that the rounds are being stopped, even when off the chest plate.

Charlie after being shot. It appears the shot is just to the right of the chest plate.

Sammy gets up after taking a blast from the shotgun. Most of the damage appears to be centered around the chest plate.

Sammy slips off the vest. It appears to only open on the right side. Since the L85 is supposed to be fired right handed, I suppose this makes sense.

Sammy shoots Frankie square in the chest plate. Note the extra damage compared to the earlier shots.

Frankie reveals his welt, which is revealed to be on the right pectoral, rather than right over his heart.

It appears there is a corresponding plate on the back as well.
