Miracle at St. Anna

Miracle at St. Anna is a 2008 World War II film directed by Spike Lee . In 1944, four black US soldiers from the segregated 92nd Infantry Division are cut off from their company during a failed attack on a German position in the Italian Campaign. The soldiers take refuge in a small Tuscan village, bringing along with them a traumatized young boy who, unknown to them, is the sole survivor of the Sant'Anna di Stazzema massacre, where hundreds of Italian civilians were killed by Waffen-SS panzergrenadiers as retribution for partisan attacks. The film was adapted from the novel of the same name written by James McBride, who also wrote the film's screenplay.

A Browning Mk II is used by the 92nd Division in the opening battle. The choice of weapon is unusual; the Mk II was made exclusively for use by the Royal Air Force, and was chambered in .303 British, not a readily available caliber for the US Army. The Browning M1919A4 would be more accurate.
