Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the 2016 film written by J.K. Rowling, the author of the best selling Harry Potter series. Set decades prior to the Harry Potter series, the film follows magicians in 1920's New York. Fantastic Beasts was directed by David Yates, who also directed the last three Harry Potter installments and The Legend of Tarzan. A sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was released in November 2018.

The film takes its name from the fictional textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them from the Harry Potter universe, the author of which, Newton "Newt" Scamander, is the film's protagonist.
