I Am Cuba (Spanish: Soy Cuba; Russian: Я Куба, Ya Kuba ) is a 1964 Soviet-Cuban B&W film directed by Mikhail Kalatozov . It depicts the events of 1959 Cuban revolution through personal stories of four characters: young woman Maria who becomes a prostitute due to the poverty of her family; aged farmer Pedro who loses his house and crops when the landlord sells the land; rebellious student Enrique, killed by police during the demonstration; and farmer Mariano who joins Castro guerrillas after his family became victims of government troops. The movie was filmed on Cuba, with Soviet film crew and Cuban actors.
