The Model 17 Eihandgranate (or Eierhandgranate) is a German "Egg" hand grenade introduced early in 1917 (during WWI) as a lightweight more portable longer range alternative to the heavier Model 13 Kugelhandgranate and Stick grenades. It featured a smooth outer casing wich housed the explosive filling and delay fuse with a pull wire loop protruding from his top. The neue Art had a fragmenting ring across its diameter to improve fragmentation during detonation.
