First-Person Shooter
The Regiment is a first person shooter in which you control a team of SAS, the principal special forces unit of the British Army. As a tactical shooter, the AI team members can be controlled using a radial menu, with commands such as flashbangs, opening doors, handcuffing hostages or providing cover. Technical advice was provided by former S.A.S. veteran John McAleese and former S.A.S. staff instructor Rhett Butler, who appear in video briefings. The game has four multi-stage scenarios that can be played in singleplayer or co-op: the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege, an IRA bomb-making operation on a farm, a Fedayeen terrorist attack on the London Underground, and a takeover of Parliament by far-right nationalists.
Whilst praised for its room-clearing mechanics and accurate location recreations, an overly-onerous training segment and the short nature of its missions led to poor critical reception. The game was later released in the US under the title "Terror Strike: Close Quarters Combat".
