Hard Times
|
Hard Times (also known as The Streetfighter) is a Depression-era drama set in New Orleans, starring Charles Bronson as Chaney, a drifter who arrives in the city and discovers the underground world of illegal bare-knuckle fighting. He meets Speed a fast-talking hustler (James Coburn), and becomes a fighter. He is an instant hit. But many factors differ him the top. "Hard Times" was Walter Hill's directorial debut and was written by him as well. In a 2009 interview Hill has this to say about the film: "It was the best deal I ever made. Got a career out of it. Picture was well received on the whole, made money. Got me off and going." It was filmed on location in New Orleans in the winter of 1974.
Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action
The rival fight manager Pettibon (Edward Walsh) pulls a Smith & Wesson .44 Double Action when he refuses to give Speed (James Coburn) his winnings. When Speed sends Chaney (Charles Bronson) to Pettibon's bar to retrieve the money, he takes the revolver and fires at least 8 shots from it, although a .44 double action can only hold 6 shots. The revolver is not a Smith and Wesson Schofield as previously thought as the revolver appears to be smaller and the hammer matches that of a .44 double action. The Schofield latch is also missing from this revolver confirming that it is not even a Schofield.
