Black Sun (the direct translation of the original title Chyornoye solntse) is a 1970 Soviet historical drama directed by Aleksei Speshnev. The story depicts the life and death of Robert Moussombe, the leader of some unnamed African state. The main character is a fictionalised depiction of Patrice Lumumba, and the events mostly follow the Congo Crisis in 1960s. Some other characters also have real life prototypes, like Dag Hammarskjold for John Bart, or Moise Tshombe for Jacques Loup.
The following weapons were used in the film Black Sun (Chyornoye solntse):
Numerous Sturmgewehr 44 are seen in the movie. They are visually modified (in two different versions) in order to resemble more modern guns, like FN FAL. These mockups, made on Belarusfilm studios, are different from Mosfilm fake M16, often seen in Soviet movies.
Mockup Version 1
The first model lacks the buttstock, sometilmes these guns are fitted with longer stick magazines. The general outlook resembles Vigneron SMG, widely used during the Congo Crisis.
Mockup Version 2
The second model retains the buttstock thought sometimes the standard one is replaced with a custom. The barrel is fitted with a cover that makes the gun to bear distant resemblance with FN FAL.
Unmodified StG 44
Some unmodified StG 44 are also seen.
Karabiner 98k
Karabiner 98k rifles are widely used by local troops. They are also seen in hands of mercenaries and big game hunters.
Unidentified rifles
In the scen of the hunt in Africa some hunters carry unidentified rifles.
Machine Guns
Goryunov SG-43 (visually modified)
Goryunov SG-43 machine guns, visually modified to resemble Browning M1919A4, are mounted on jeeps, BTR-152 APC and on tripod.
