Escape to Athena Elliott Gould , Richard Roundtree , Sonny Bono , Claudia Cardinale , and Stephanie Powers as a group consisting of resistance fighters and POW's who fight to escape a German-occupied Greek island while plotting to recover hidden treasure. The film is notable for featuring three actors who had appeared in James Bond films: David Niven as archaeologist Professor Blake, Roger Moore as Major Otto Hecht, and Telly Savalas as Zeno, the monk turned resistance fighter. The film was directed by George P. Cosmatos , who would later go on to direct such films as Rambo: First Blood Part II Tombstone
