The Mask of Zorro
|
The Mask of Zorro is the 1998 swashbuckler action film that returns the legendary masked crusader back to the silver screen. Antonio Banderas stars as Alejandro Murrieta, who is chosen to carry on the tradition of Zorro to the people of Mexico. The film was directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale (2006)) and was also one of the first major roles for Catherine Zeta-Jones. Both Banderas and Zeta-Jones as well as director Campbell would return for the 2005 sequel The Legend of Zorro.
The following weapons were used in the film The Mask of Zorro:
Brown Bess Musket
The Brown Bess Flintlock Musket is the weapon used by soldiers of the Mexican army in the film.
Remington 1858 "Cattleman's Carbine"
Texan Army Captain Harrison Love uses a Remington 1858 "Cattleman's Carbine" to wound Three-Fingered Jack (L.Q. Jones) and Joaquin Murrietta (Victor Rivers). (It should be noted that the rifle is anachronistic, since the movie takes place in 1841, 17 years before the revolver the rifle is based on was invented.)
Flintlock Pistol
The Flintlock Pistol is used by Joaquin Murrietta (Victor Rivers) alongside his pocket flintlock pistol to threaten the guards during the strongbox robbery. He later uses the same pistol to commit suicide after being wounded by Captain Love (Matt Letscher). A number of pistols are seen hanging on the wall of the barracks when Alejandro (Antonio Banderas) attempts to steal a horse, and Eléna Montero (Catherine Zeta-Jones) uses one when she frees some miners at the end of the film.
Flintlock Pocket Pistol
During the strongbox robbery, Joaquin Murietta (Victor Rivers) pulls a hidden Flintlock Pocket Pistol to threaten one of the guards that punches Alejandro (Antonio Banderas).
Colt Paterson
In addition to his sword, Captain Harrison Love (Matt Letscher) carries a Colt Paterson revolver. It is one of the early Colt Patersons because it does not have a loading lever and had to be disassembled for reloading.
Double Barreled Percussion Shotgun
A Double Barreled Percussion Shotgun is used by Rafael Montero (Stuart Wilson).
