Sukhov lights a cigarette from the fuse of dynamite. Next second he will throw the explosive far away with the same "poker face".

Discussion

Anyone else think the Sukhov looks like Franco Nero? BeardedHoplite 18:14, 27 October 2011 (CDT)

Lewis and DP

In fact, Comrade Sukhov fired from Degtyaryov DP light machine gun, which modified to resemble Lewis machine gun

Yes, you are right. I was not sure about it and didn't write this fact. Please, update the article. Thank you! Спасибо, коллега! Greg-Z 14:44, 26 October 2011 (CDT)

not win 1894

no hammer, receiver looks different and barrels look slightly different. mpm

OK, I'll change it to "Unidentified rifle". It is something very Winchester-like... If not Winchester then I don't know what it is :( Greg-Z 04:36, 27 October 2011 (CDT)

PK or not PK?

This machine gun looks like as not PK Machine Gun. People on russian gun forums talk that it is a Hotchkiss Model 1922 or Hotchkiss Model 1925

Hotchkiss Model 1925. Spanish model?

Maybe... But this flexible belt look very much like PK's. Hotchkiss used rigid strips, not belts. Could it be PK modified to resemble Hotchkiss LMG? I doult that sovier film factory could have such a rare weapon as Hotchkiss Mle22 or Mle25. Greg-Z 04:36, 27 October 2011 (CDT)
Hotchkiss has a large receiver. Soviet filmmakers can connect any belt in it. Also this machine gun never shown been fired in this movie. Bednardos - 27 October 2011
OK, I'll rewrite this part. Greg-Z 07:12, 27 October 2011 (CDT)

Legacy

Apparently, one of the many superstitions amongst cosmonauts is watching this film prior to launch. Now I'm curious. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:14, 24 November 2014 (EST)

I've read that this tradition appeared in 1973, after the mission of Soyuz-12 spacecraft. This flight was performed after the disaster of Soyuz-11, and when Lazarev and Makarov, the crew of Soyuz-12, finished a very successful flight and returned without problems, they joked that they watched the film before to the flight, and Comrade Sukhov helped them.
