Showtime is a 2002 action comedy directed by Tom Dey (Shanghai Noon) and starring Robert De Niro as Mitch Preston, a no-nonsense LAPD detective who is partnered with Trey Sellars (Eddie Murphy), a patrol officer who has dreams of becoming an actor. Together they become stars of their own reality program as they investigate the use of a very deadly weapon in several crimes. The cast includes Rene Russo and William Shatner as himself.

The unique weapon used by Ceasar Vargas (Pedro Damian) in the film is a modified Saiga 12 shotgun. It's mentioned by the gun expert Charlie Hertz in the film as "the gun that's not supposed to exist". Designed specifically for this movie and built by gunsmiths Larry Zanoff and the late Jim Boland, the weapon is mentioned to fire depleted uranium shells. It is seen fired in both its compact configuration and in its full extended configuration. The weapon is also fitted with a green laser sight and C-more red dot sight. This weapon was prominently featured in the series Firefly, as Jayne's favorite gun "Vera".
