Sweetwater
Sweetwater is a 2013 Western thriller starring January Jones (of Mad Men) as Sarah Ramírez, an ex-prostitute in the 1880s who takes revenge against a corrupt clergyman in New Mexico Territory after the murder of her husband. Ed Harris also stars as an erratic sheriff who assists Sarah on her mission of vengeance. It was released in the UK as Sweet Vengeance and was an official selection at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.
The following weapons were used in the film Sweetwater:
Remington Model 1875
Sarah Ramírez (January Jones) uses a Remington Model 1875 with a 5 1/2" barrel as her main weapon throughout the film, carried in both a brown leather hip holster or her purse. Her husband, Miguel Ramírez (Eduardo Noriega), also uses the revolver when she is teaching him how to shoot properly. Sheriff Jackson confirms that the weapon is .44-caliber and uses 200-grain bullets, confirming that it is a Model 1875 since that is the only weapon to be chambered in .44 Remington Centerfire ammunition.
Due to the 5.5" barrel, it is likely an Uberti 1875 Frontier replica, which is chambered only in .45 Colt or .357 Magnum and can be purchased new for $559.
Single Action Army Cavalry Model
Prophet Josiah (Jason Isaacs), the murderous preacher, uses a nickel-plated Single Action Army Cavalry Model with a 7.5" barrel and walnut grips, carried in a brown leather belt holster. He also carries a second backup SAA, which appears to be color case hardened with white grips. Sheriff Jackson asks Josiah if he may inspect a round from the revolver while investigating a murder.
- Jackson: ".45?"
- Josiah: "Colt."
- Jackson: "Don't look factory made."
- Josiah: "We take pleasure in doing things for ourselves."
Later, when investigating the murders further, Jackson establishes that the weight of Josiah's .45 round is 250 grain. An assayer tells Jackson that the 95% lead and 5% zinc compound confirms that the rounds are homemade since a factory would "never use zinc in their moldings."
Sheriff Cornelius Jackson (Ed Harris) also carries a nickel Single Action Army Cavalry Model in his RHD shoulder holster, although it appears to be color case hardened with walnut grips later in the film; either this is a continuity error or a second revolver. Sarah (January Jones) uses his color case hardened SAA while at "Holy Land". Kingfisher (Luce Rains), the disgraced former sheriff, also carries a blued Single Action Army Cavalry Model. Jolene (Jenny Gabrielle), one of the brainwashed women at Josiah's "Holy Land" ranch fires a blued Single Action Army Cavalry Model at Sarah as she approaches, throwing it at her in desperation when she misses with all six shots.
Winchester Model 1887
Daniel (Jason Aldean), Josiah's henchman, uses a Winchester Model 1887 "scattergun", as Jackson describes it, with a 20" barrel. This also appears to be the weapon that Jackson picks up in the sheriff's office to beat Kingfisher.
Double-Barreled Shotgun
Jeremiah, the bank guard and glorified thug employed at Hugh's Integrity & Trust, carries a long double-barreled shotgun with exposed hammers. Gretchen (Gigi Hise), one of the brainwashed women at Josiah's "Holy Land" ranch fires a double-barreled shotgun with exposed hammers at Sarah as she approaches, charging her with it before Sarah puts her down.
Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy"
When he hears a commotion outside, Mexican-born rancher Miguel Ramírez (Eduardo Noriega) picks up and chambers a Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy" carbine. Sarah (January Jones) later carries the same rifle strapped to her back when carrying out her mission of vengeance.
